Are those who have committed suicide going to be saved?

Scripture:
Is it possible for someone who ended their own life to be in heaven? Are there any Bible passages or stories that give clarity on this?

In our country, mental health issues have become a focus, as our youth suicide rate is quite high, and in other age groups as well. we are told that mental illness is the same as any other illness. Therefore, if a Bible believing Christian commits suicide because they are mentally unwell, how is that fair that God would then omit them from Heaven? He wouldn't omit said Christian from entering Heaven who died from cancer. My son committed suicide. I had given him a little New Testament to read and it was nearly falling to pieces from frequent reading when I found it after he died. He had asked me numerous questions about God and the Bible. Twice Mr Batchelor I have heard you say on tv that those who commit suicide will not be going to Heaven. I have been devastated since then, you have broken my heart.

3/3 Ultimately, I believe that God will take every case into consideration and evaluate it individually. For instance, there would be a difference between the suicides of Judas and Saul and that of Samson. There is evidence that Samson repented of abusing the gifts God had given him.  Samson’s death was not so much a suicide as it was a sacrifice.  Strangely it was God’s Sprit that filled him with the strength to collapsed the temple on himself.
However, I can say with total assurance that it would not be God’s will for anyone to take his or her own life as an escape from this world. He loves each of us with a deeper love than we can even imagine and wants to give us an “abundance of life.”  When things get tough and emotions low remember nothing can separate you from the love of God and love “bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things” (Romans 8:39; 1 Corinthians 13:7).

If you are in need of a good Christian counselor who could be of assistance, we recommend the New Life Clinics, which that are located throughout the United States. You can call 1-800-639-5433 and they will locate a clinic near you and help make arrangements for an appointment with a Christian counselor.

Samson didn't commit suicide he was so focused on destroying the enemies of the LORD that the thought of Death didn't even come to mind and GOD gave Samson the strength to show his faith one last time and in his Death Samson destroyed more enemies of the LORD than in his whole life before his Death

2/3 Then there is the second person I picture.  They have lost a son or daughter to suicide. They want to know if there is any hope their precious child will be in the kingdom?
I believe only God truly knows the human heart, which is why I’m glad He has commanded that we aren’t to judge someone’s salvation destiny.  It probably goes without saying that many suicides are the result of extreme depression, unbalanced brain chemistry, and compromised thinking processes. God has said that He holds us accountable only for what we know we are doing. Here is a text to contemplate, “To him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin” (James 4:17).
I believe God is far more merciful than we can even imagine. There are some people who have taken their lives because their grief or pain was more than they could bear at that particular moment in time—and in a rash decision, ended it when maybe, had they waited but five minutes, the urge would pass. They loved the Lord, they served the Lord, but they were in so much agony because of physical suffering or some emotional devastation or chemical change they tragically took their own lives.  I do not believe God judges the panorama of someone’s life based on one deadly rut of depression.

1/3 Q. Can a person who commits suicide be saved?
A.  First let me preface my thoughts by saying this is a very difficult issue and I suspect everyone person reading this now knows of someone, friend or family, that has made this fateful decision.I picture two different people when answering this question.  One is a very discouraged Christian teenager calling our Bible answer radio program thinking their lives are too difficult or painful.  They’re wondering if they can just say a prayer, kill themselves and still wake up heaven.  I will do all I can to convince that person suicide is terrible choice with a strong likelihood they will wake up with much worse situation.  The Bible says plainly that the just shall live by faith. Typically, suicide is a result of a person losing hope and losing their faith.  Further, the Bible tells us, “Thou shalt not kill,” which would of course include one’s self. Suicide, therefore, is a violation of the sixth commandment. So generally speaking it would appear that if the last act of a person’s life was to lose hope, and faith and commit self-murder this would not provide great optimism for their eternal future.   Where there is life there is hope, 4 “But for him who is joined to all the living there is hope…” (Ecclesiastes 9:3–4 NKJV).

Bebe, Pastor Doug had written a response to this question a while back in the Inside Report magazine that Amazing Facts publishes. We invite you to read the full explanation below. (Due to character limits in this comment platform, there will be three parts.)
Caller:I'm a student, I go to high school, and in our Christian class we've been discussing the question of if people commit suicide will they go to heaven? I just wanted your input on it and maybe if you have any Biblical evidence?

Pastor Doug: Well, first of all, let's analyze. The Bible says that the just shall live by faith. Typically, not in every case, a suicide is a result of a person losing hope and losing faith. In most cases, a suicide would be lost. Not only because of that, but the Bible says 'Thou shalt not kill', and that would include yourself. So if it's a sin to take life that you cannot create, that would include your own life. There are rare exceptions: for instance, Samson. He basically was a suicide. He laid down his life to save others. Technically, a person who kills himself to save others is a suicide, but they may be doing it rather out of love than hopelessness. So, only God knows the heart. There are some people who have taken their lives because their grief was more than they could bear. They loved the Lord, they served the Lord, but they were in so much agony because of physical suffering or some emotional devastation or chemical change they may have done it. I would not venture to judge and say all suicides are lost. I would say that it's the rare exception.
