5 Reasons Heaven Won’t Be Boring

Myths that sprang up during the Dark Ages have distorted the biblical picture of heaven into something entirely unrecognizable—and totally wrong! Sadly, many people still buy into this ancient fiction.

But the Bible clears away the cobwebs. It identifies heaven as the place where God resides (2 Chronicles 6:21) and assures us that the Lord has an exciting future planned for those who choose to serve Him. Jesus has promised to return to receive His followers unto Himself, so “that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:3).

Then, eventually, God will recreate our earth to make it new again and live with us right here (Revelation 21:3). At that time, our home planet will become heaven. Here are five reasons why heaven will never be boring...

1. We will plant and build. The prophet Isaiah, speaking of the new earth, wrote, “They shall build houses and inhabit them; they shall plant vineyards and eat their fruit” (Isaiah 65:21). Though we will have a home in God’s great city, the New Jerusalem, we will also construct our own country home on the earth.

2. We will be surrounded by breathtaking nature. Heaven will be full of tame creatures (Isaiah 11:6–9, 65:25). If you enjoy animals, or gorgeous scenery, or the study of science, you will find endless activities in those areas. We will even be able to explore the cosmos.

3. We will be reunited with loved ones. Our family members and friends who have chosen to serve Christ will be there. The Bible plainly teaches that we will recognize each other in our resurrected forms. For example, 1 Thessalonians 4:13, 14 says, "I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.”

4. We will make millions of new friends. We will get to interact with people from all times in history and hear their fascinating stories, and we’ll even get to personally know those we’ve read about in the Bible. Jesus said, in Matthew 8:11, “Many will come from east and west, and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.”

5. Best of all, we will be able to visit face to face with our awesome God and spend time with our Redeemer, Jesus. “They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads” (Revelation 22:4).

There will be plenty more to occupy eternity, like relishing the most delicious foods you’ve ever eaten, listening to and participating in the most soul-stirring music you’ve ever heard, worshipping before God’s glorious throne, building relationships with angels and other created beings, and endless other activities.

The Bible says, “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him” (1 Corinthians 2:9). God loves you deeply and has created unimaginable variety and wonder throughout the universe for you to enjoy.

I am a Seventh Day Adventist. A 21yr old female. I was baptized in March and I have questions about marriage in Heaven out of fear after reading Mathew, Luke, and Mark. My generation's dating pool is twisted and with the second coming on it's way I'm scared of not being able to get married and have a family of my own to work and care for like what everyone else has. I'm scared of not having a chance at all in this life and the thought of not having a chance in heaven dwindles so much optimism for me because having a healthy and big family is all I want in life... God made Adam and Eve incomplete so they can be each other's partners and created marriage and reproduction from the beginning and thought of it as a good thing. I look at all these arguments about "marriage wouldn't be needed" and that it's only a man-made thing; looking at this it makes me want to ask why we are allowed to eat and drink in the new world if we'll be eternal since it's "not needed" like marriage. The thought of never having what would genuinely make me happy in this life and even afterwards... I don't want heaven or the new earth to make me feel incomplete. I don't want to hear "we'll all be family in heaven so you don't need to work for it " when it will just be handed to me. I'm genuinely so depressed about this topic and it's been eating me alive. It feels like I'll die alone in this life then have my memories sugarcoated just to be "happy"

Hi dear! I grew UP in the church and church schools, and I literally felt the same way, UNTIL I had to learn a few things....
First.. The Lord made each planet, and each species of life different and for different reasons..  He made HIS SPECIAL planet Earth in HIS IMAGE. ***His Character, ***His image as Adam and Eve were made PERFECT in every way... unlike us today due to sin. ***But He also made our planet somewhat the same perfection as His Home... Heaven. And when He made Mankind- He made them ABLE to reproduce. We're not SURE if any other planets are like us... but our whole reason for being here was to WORSHIP HIM.. and to "be fruitful and multiply".. to fill the earth with children and people in HIS image. That's where our "child-making" organs came in.
But Jesus told us.. when we get to Heaven.. we will all be LIKE the angels.. and there will be NO marriage....
Marriage was strictly made for the earth. Because MAN was NEVER supposed to make children WITHOUT being in a HOLY Matrimony (marriage first!).  SO IMPORTANT TO KNOW...We will be ((LIKE)) the angels... (meaning NO genitals or reproductive organs)... but we WON'T ((BE)) angels.
But DON'T think there will be no kids, babies and children!  I learned there will be trillians possibly~  ESPECIALLY ALL THE LITTLE ABORTED BABIES I was told!! And so much more.

What you need to understand is that BECAUSE we will all be CHANGED into perfection, "in the twinkling of an eye".. with the SAME PERFECT BODY Jesus became --as He rose from His Grave. And because we will be SO THRILLED to BE there with our precious LORD and Saviour, we literally WON'T be able to keep our eyes off of Him!! There will be SO much to SEE and DO in Heaven, and then the NEW Earth, (after the 1000 years), that we just won't believe it .. and be thrilled and thankful constantly!! We will all be ONE big giant FAMILY.

Our JOB here on earth, is to let GOD LEAD us to all things needed to GET READY for Heaven--in mind, body and soul. That will mean in ALL our needs- our ways to earn money to live and exist- our relationships- even our choices to have a family.  AND it ALL revolves around HELPING OTHERS to FIND HIM ALSO-- as He told us all to spread the Gospel to the world- and THEN He will return.
**** YOU STILL HAVE TIME my dear to let Him lead you!  You still have time to try to get as close to Him as you possibly can, with daily STUDY- PRAYER- sharing- and worship as you live your life (((IN HIM))) and making all your "choices" in life with prayers and allowing Him to lead you.  Believe me HE WILL. The LAST thing He wants you to do is FRET over your future!  That is only the DEVIL attacking you and causing you to worry and fret! DO NOT LET him win!
Please contact me, [removed], if you want to talk more.. or pray. I am here!

in regards to the Holy Spirit, we should understand that the Holy Spirit isn’t to be interpreted strictly as a wonder. While He is a miraculous and beautiful gift, and God gives Him freely to you if you ask, we should also look for the beauty in Him that doesn’t call Him to be giving you visions, speaking in tongues, or even heating up your body as some might have told you. When you interpret and put together biblical truths, that is the Holy Spirit at work in your life. People want signs and wonders but our hearts would reject it because we reject the plain truth God has already given us. I saw a show and this psych counselor saw a demon but refused to believe it was a demon despite seeing it and locking focus with it, chose to settle that his mind was undergoing stress and responded accordingly. We like to think “if God would only give me a sign,” he gave us the word! “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”
‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬-‭17‬ ‭ESV‬‬
Moreover look at John 14:17, “He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.”
‭‭The Holy Spirit could very well be present and you would call it “common sense”. Spend time with God because He loves you and because you want to love Him. Follow the Lord’s commands and God will give you the Holy Spirit. you’ll be able to recognize the Holy Spirit when He comes upon you, it doesn’t have to be “warm and fuzzy”. Could He give you that, sure. But That’s not what defines Him. He leads to the truth, but if you don’t believe scripture it could show and teach you truth, but you’d only reject it. We have to accept God as THE ONLY TRUTH. And He is.

Dennis Williams said it best. It sucks that the 1st couple comments were overall negative. I thought Christian’s were to be hopeful of the things to come not critical lol but either way, our human mind is finite and exists within the dimensions of space and time… and the convoluted combo of the two, “space-time” (cue mystical music) ooo. This is why we like science it exist within limitations, calculable and able to bring us to a finite end and answer. Welp, God isn’t that. He, along with heaven exists outside of those things. To be in God’s element where physics and biology don’t have much of a hold on our experience is insane. You won’t have sensations of 15 minutes. It’s eternity. It’ll be hard to say “ugh when is praise and worship going to end” because like eternity is for us now the concept of finite time will possibly be incomprehensible or like i said, at the very least, maybe without sensation or the sensation we are familiar to. Moreover, our concepts of worship can be very conceited sometimes as to think we’re doing God a favor and sometimes it can be demanding, as to say “ok God when are you going to fill me with joy?”. Both are distorted approaches. Our worship of the most high sovereign God will be in the breaths we take, the work we do, the petting of tamed creatures, eating, convo, etc. the partaking in creation and the thankfulness in our hearts to the one who allowed us to be in it ISSS worship. i googled this question cause of a show and just pure curiosity but my spirit answered it before reading. Christians delight in the Lord, I delight in the Lord. If it is possible in that time to even become bored, which i highly doubt, who’s to say that God, who’s given us the peace that surpasses all understanding, won’t continually fill our hearts with gladness lol i get it though, which is why i laugh. We’re humans being humans and putting God and His plan in a box like we’ve being doing for years. But God is God. I AM, really is the best way to put it.

I used to to a church with a fella with all kinds of questions behind a riotous laughter. I really think there is a time of searching in any one's life and all we can do is pray for each other that we find in whom there is no guile- Jesus Christ. Evolution, SCI-FI, humanism, etc, folk, lead nowhere. I kindly ask for folk to keep reading the material provided by AF teams, Pastor Doug, the moderators, and of course, the BIBLE itself!!! I personally found it so liberating from years of hunting for a home of my confused head!

Not a comment but a question.

While we are here on earth, we can continually grow closer to God. Will we still be able to continually grow closer to God once we have entered eternity ?

I’ve looked in many places for that answer but no one seems to cover that one.

So, yeah, I don't see how any of the points here are going to make heaven not boring. I mean the whole worship at gods throne thing, why does God need people to worship him for eternity? After a billion years, there is going to be foods you have not tasted? I doubt it

I am looking forward to continuing my heavenly life, working and having wonderful adventures with my husband. We were together 48 years on this earth. I look forward to being reunited with him on that bright and beautiful morning, in that glorious place beyond the stars, where grief, pain and sorrow do not exist.

My 2nd post from the previous one....sorry to stay on this soap box. So, apparently Jesus left us the Holy Spirit. I've never met, him, her, it? I don't buy the warm, fuzzy feeling that might be directing me as proof of the Holy Spirit being intertwined in my life - common sense (apparently God-give) doesn't justify such a position. Just as everyone once accepted that the world was flat was wrong, I think we're all going to be surprised when our journeys come to an end. I realize I'm rambling at this point. But I've seen lots of positions on this topic in the comments below, and I respect most of them. I highly respect the non-believers' point of view and hope they don't stop looking for more. Apparently Jesus said, "Knock and the door will be opened to you."....so keep knocking, seeking, working through this life...or don't. Enjoy the life you've been given. I'll continue to seek and knock as well, but God sure is quiet. I wish he would come back and give us a clue...or just a glimpse...of Himself. I'd settle even for an angle....those shepherds in the field got one :) A college professor - a devout Christian - once told me that it's never wrong to ask questions. Just keep looking for the answers. I'm going to hop off my soapbox and agree that if Heaven is just standing around in robes chanting and waving palm branches, that's going to be boring as hell. Kinda like those green fellas in Toy Story.

Did anyone notice that fella a couple of posts down thinking about ending it all? I hope someone reached out to him. Sounds like he was looking for love. A wise man told me once that being single wishing your were with someone is tough, but being with someone wishing you were single is much lonelier and much, much worse. Wishing you made it through!

About this heaven being boring topic: I've often wondered the same thing. What the Bible describes as a bunch of people standing around waving palm branches and chanting out praise to God....well...I think I could go about 15 minutes before I'd lose my mind - very much how I feel during lengthy monotonous singing at the beginning of a church service. I think the "praise" music session during church services has a lot to do with why the church is dying. I think it does a lot for those singing (obviously, you can see it on their closed-eyes seriously serious faces as they "worship"). I think the bigger question here is: What bores God? If I was God (and I'm not), I'd be bored out of my find being surrounded by a bunch of people chanting at me....."You're worthy...you're worthy....you're so worth...."....well, duh? I'm God, tell me something I don't know. "You're worth, you're worth, you're worth to be praised..." God's response, "OK, now you're just on my nerves....poof! be gone with you!" I think we're getting in the way of God. The Bible said Jesus came that we would have life and have it more abundantly. That means in the hear and now...and the afterlife. Both/and. The first step any truth seeking mammal has to ask would be "Is the Bible accurate and reliable"...if it is, the Jesus is the Son of God and your ticket to Heaven. If the Bible isn't, then....well....who knows? Obviously, Jesus was here 2000 yrs ago and those that were there got to see him face to face - they got the opportunity to "accept" him in person. Jesus left and apparently left us the Holy Spirit...I'm running out of space.

Time began at the Creation. "In the beginning" In Heaven time will cease there will no need for time or the concept of the future. We get bored because of time. We have future expectations that require waiting, requiring time. Waiting that makes us bored will not be possible. Therebe no waiting in Heaven everything will be now. We are presently trapped in time, in heaven we will be freed from time and freed from boredom. But since we are creatures within time and God is outside of time we will not understand until we are with God outside of time. I came to this understanding in watching a science program about time and space on the NOVA TV channel.

How long do you think it would take you to do all those things and still find them interesting? A century? A thousand years? How about a QUADRILLION years? Well, you’d better pace yourself, because a quadrillion years is only a tiny, insignificant fraction of eternity. I hope you don’t get bored easily....

You sound very narrow minded. Seriously. How can permanent bliss ever get boring and many other imagination of what else there’ll be. It cannot be fully comprehended all about heaven from an earthly perspective: “ If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?” John 3:12

I feel like something such as bliss is extremely subjective. I’ve been thinking about this for quite some time and I feel like I’m just going through this monotonous boring life to get to something that won’t make me truly happy. No more things like winners because then there are losers. No more things like games because then there are people who are sad that they aren’t good. And even if that’s not true and everybody is equal what’s the point. No more finding your soul mate, no more adventures, no more hardships to experience with people you love, no more fun rivalries, no super funny jokes, can’t imagine good jokes without occasionally making fun of somebody doing something like falling or whatever, you’re just there. Roaming for eternity. All I’ve ever wanted in life is to get far far away from home and meet her. But with my current circumstance that won’t be happening any time soon. I’m going to live a boring meaningless life just to work fields and build buildings for the rest of eternity. Idk maybe I’m just scared. Today was rough and I almost ended it all. I hope I’m wrong and I hope that maybe it’s nothing like I could ever imagine. I’ll cya up there dude and please pray for me. Pray that maybe even she finds me. Please... -Nate

We know what boredom is because we are well aquainted with sin. Sin is essentially misusing and stealing our Creator God,'s resources and not giving credit where credit is due. When we are sure we are going to Heaven because we have finally recognized the true giver and sustainer of life and trust God in flesh Jesus fully for paying the price for our apathy and arrogance, we are poised for a truly abundant life ( John 10v10). When we are finally humble enough to be convinced that the Intelligent Creator who made us can make us tick better than all our false god's including our selves,we will realize that boredom was the result of our mistakes and God had nothing to do with it. Thinking that Heaven does not exist or will in some way be boring is truly an infantile mindset.

I don’t understand how you could even say that. I would rather be bored in heaven than burn in hell first of all. Plus, boredom is a spirit that more than likely doesn’t exist in heaven. But our earthly minds can’t comprehend the creativity of heaven so went will not be able to understand until we get the unfortunately.

Burning is a physical thing (fuel, flame, oxygen - all products that exist in reality). How can these damned spirits in hell burn, if they are pure spirit? Is there spiritual oxygen? Spiritual flames? How is it different from burning with desire to spread the Word of God? Where does your metaphor became real, and where is it merely convenient to what you want to say? Stipulate or suffocate, my friend!

BTW, heaven is a fictitious place made up in the minds of men, like hell, because so many cannot deal with the fact that you get one life. At best 100 years, then you are gone forever. Who wants to believe that. Heaven has a much better ring to it, but it's nonsense.

When I was young, I went to Catholic school (St Pius V), sang in the choir, and was an altar boy.
By the second grade I was asking questions the nuns couldn't answer. If it doesn't make sense to a 7 year old, then there are an awful lot of holes in the story. By the end of 4th grade I couldn't just rely on faith for such a far fetched story.
SO, if there is an afterlife, hopefully I did enough good early in life by singing in the choir and being an altar boy. After all, in the Catholic religion, the Lord God is a forgiving God and he should forgive my for any sins and let me into his pearly gates
If there isn't an afterlife, well, nothing really matters.
BTW, as an altar by I led the procession that brought the priest through the church and to the altar. I also carried a GIGANTIC candle, about 3 inches thick by 3' tall. It was held by a giant candle holder. There was a wide rim to protect your hands from any dripping wax from the candle.
Well, though the rim of the candle holder is wide, and it does protect your hands from dripping wax, if you don't pay careful attention, you can easily tilt the candle enough to miss the rim entirely and pour wax onto both your bare forearms (the forearms are bare because of the gown thing you wear) When this happens, you've GOT to continue as if nothing happened. It's real hard for a kid to stay composed when he is in agony and has melted wax all over your arms. That alone should have earned me a ticket !

Christianity is one long exercise in selfishness. All most Christians care about is whether they get into Heaven or not. If you could send a million souls to Heaven but in doing so you would forfeit your own to Hell, would you do it? I'm guessing no. How about 1000 souls? How about 10? I'm willing to bet you didn't even get that far. Would I personally take a fatal bullet to save 10 people (living people, not some ephemeral conception of a soul)? Heck, yes. In fact, I would give my life for oneof the people I know. Much less 100, 1000 or 10,000 people. And the people who love me would mourn, but would they condemn my actions? NO. And let's not forget the time you could "literally" buy your way out of purgatory through generous donations to the Church. Easy to disown now, right? What if that had been the general consensus in YOUR time that this was legit, and all your Church figures agreed to it? Would you have the courage to stand up and denounce this as the nonsense it was? NO. You don't even know what selfish is.

We did. All matter comes from the explosion of stars, the reaction of atoms (elements) to form compounds within intense heat of a supernova. Planets formed from gravity, the same gravity that keeps the moon spinning around earth, and the earth around the sun. And Christianity started out as a cult (still is a cult, in my opinion). Evolutionist theory is strongly backed by science (methodical, slow study based on logic and observation, questioned and confirmed by virtually all biologists). Creationist theory has no evidence but a book, written by leaders of a cult from centuries ago. I know it is difficult to switch from being deeply religious to believing in science. I come from a deeply religious family, but ended up studying biology. I had to choose between my faith and what I personally believed in - I chose science.

No, humans didn't come into existence by themselves, they EVOLVED over millions and millions of years. No, the Bible is not ONE man's thoughts, it's A LOT of men's thoughts. And it's a fairly new religion compared to the thousands that have existed throughout history. So many gods have come and gone before we came up with Jesus and Allah and whatever's trending nowadays. Frankly, it seems like Christianity - and religion altogether - is on its last legs. Maybe set the Bible aside for a second and look into some actual history books. You might even understand the world.

I have the same fear
If it calms you, God's creativity is infinite, so he will always find the way to make us enterteined, plus, you won't remember everything, so if you find A boring, you can move on to B, and so on, if you get bored, you will probably miss A, and will do it again, (obviously there isn't just 26 things to do)
Hope it helps

Visit the world God had created fly with my wings there is so much to do and an eternity for it. Months leading to my husband's death, our small family( our daughter, husband, and myself) would study and talk about heaven in our worship. We would talk about what wonderful things we would be doing like those that were mentioned above, the fruits of the tree of Life, and to see Jesus face to face. We talked about the amazing flora and fauna we shall see, the endless things we shall discover, and an eternity of studying God's amazing love! And one day, when our Lord awakens my husband from sleep, we shall be reunited with him again. Such a sweet blessed hope!
Thank you Jesus. Please come back soon.

At least a few times a day, I find something to make me compare it to heaven. It may be wildlife that we'll be able to touch and communicate with; a perfect nature photo that is not as perfect as the earth made new; feeling perfect health and vitality; Ezekiel 43 and Revelation 1 say that God's voice and Jesus' voice is like many waters (trying to imagine that); what they each look like; what angels look like and sound like; etc., etc.,
When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be! :)

Can you imagine having all the time to learn something new, like the cosmos, wow. To learn about plants and how they live in harmony or music, to learn beautiful music. But what about the greatest things we can learn or even meet. To meet Jesus, to sit at his feet and listen to him speak. I mean just sitting at his feet, to see him, not imagine him but to see the glory of God. I am so excited. I would love to be one who has my name in the book of life but that is not my choice but Gods and I hope I make it. Jesus is one person/onmini essence i would love to meet, and say I am sorry and to thank him for all he has done for US! For saving our lives.

I see that you had made it. Jesus has knocked on your day and apparent you invited Him in. When you stand before God who has the keys of life, and the Book of Life. The Author will find your name written in the Lamb's Book of Life. There was a time when I had a wavering test of a sort. I thought once one had accepted God's Salvation and if I did sin of which I had. I was convince there was no way back. The only way not back is refusal of God's forgiveness of which is pass, present and even future sins. Not that we are to deliberate go for the sin of your choice. One will get God's reprove, to the point He, willingly will cause things to happen so as to catch one's attention. As fast as I was running He gotten in front of me and said enough is enough. That right there gave me a spiritual growth of which as of today I'm still enjoying it and giving praise and thankfully so.

Amen. I can't wait to meet him and do as he says and to just listen to his voice. I'm so excited. I can't handle just the thought. I hope I make it into his book.
