Thank you, Pastor Luccas. I really appreciate the part about judgment being future from the perspective of the Bible writers and therefore not complete at the cross. It's good to see Bible answers.

On the other hand, I question the assertion that we are not lost for our evil works. I agree that selfishness, the lack of true love, does result in sin. At the same time, I understand the wages of sin to be death (Romans 6:23), and that Jesus will reward each according to his works (Revelation 22:12). So would it not be better to say that condemnation in the lost is for both lack of love and the resulting bad behavior? (Then you would not be discounting the plain reading of the verses you previously quoted.) Grace is given so that we might not be condemned for our works (Romans 4, especially verses 4 and 5, Romans 11:6, 2 Timothy 1:9) And the standard for judgment remains the law of God, both for the saved and for the lost. The lost are lost because they stand condemned by the law (Romans 5:12-16). The saved are saved because they trust in Him who not only forgives but cleanses them and makes them worthy to walk with Him (1 John 1:9, and Revelation 3:4). As someone else said, character determines destiny. So motive and works and character all are considered in judgment (Ecclesiastes 12:14, 1 Corinthians 4:5, Proverbs 23:7).
