Explain how Jesus was in the tomb 3 days & 3 nights.

Scripture: Matthew 12:40
If Jesus died on Friday and rose on Sunday, how could He have been in the tomb for 3 days and 3 nights?

The Bible does not teach that Christ died on a Friday and rose on Sunday. The person, RG1, commenting just before me was counting days - a common mistake. Mt 12:40 talks of days and nights. Where is the night count?

Thursday, Nissan 14: Passover Sabbath (Leviticus 23:4-5, Exodus 12:5-7) Jesus was in the tomb – DAY ONE. Friday, Nissan 15: Unleavened Bread Sabbath (Leviticus 23:6) Jesus was in the tomb – DAY TWO. Saturday, Nissan 16: Normal weekly Saturday Sabbath. Jesus was in to tomb – DAY THREE. Jesus was in the tomb THREE DAYS and THREE NIGHT just as He had said.

Dear readers,
Again, in all things, we need divine insight to get the full understanding of every biblical event. Let's read:
Jonah 1:17 7 And the LORD appointed a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the stomach of the fish three days and three nights.
Matthew 12:40, “for just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so shall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”
First thing we should always keep in mind is that the material body of Jonah and that of Jesus are not the ones the bible is ferreting to in these passages. Therefore the time period accounted for (3 days), should not be directly associated to a time frame within our earthly realm. Jonah and Jesus both went to the same place, the centre of Satan's realm (commonly known as hell). The three days of Jonah in the the stomach of the monster fish actually referrers to 3 days in hell. Likewise Jesus actually spent the 3 days in hell, no in the tomb (Eph. 4:9 “He ascended,” what does it mean except that He also had descended into the lower parts of the earth?”).
We can argue and make known our points of view, but we should never forget that the 3 days were spent in hell, not on earth, making this to be probably another allegory (or symbolical expression).

Do the math with the Hebrew calender and Gregorian calender. Refer to the possible days Nisan 14th falls on. Analyse all possibilities - even the year of death adding 33 years to the time of birth (the year of birth being years before/on 4 BC - death of Herod) then conclude. Donot go by a belief system based on subjective presumptions.
The Lord bless!

Yeshua gave up his spirit between 12- 3 pm. As the sabbath ( Passover) was nearly upon them 6pm.
He was the Passover the lamb of God. The days before his death he was being inspected ( just like the lambs where for preparation .. The lead up to his death.ceasar an pilot could not find no fault or should I say imperfections with the lamb of God. He was perfect.the Lord was crucified around midday, he died towards the end of the day, that would be the start of his 3days and 3 nights.
Thursday 12pm 6pm ends. new day starts at 6pm Thursday night. 6am is the start Friday day. 6pm is sabbath Friday night.
6am is Saturday sabbath. 6pm first day of the week night.
Now the bible mentions it was very early when the women went to his tomb with the perfume an spices.
An the angles that they saw spoke to them both an told them that he is risen an lives.that the Lord would be risen on the 3rd day.why then wasn't he there all night?
The Lord had risen partly through the night just like he died partly through the day.
It's still day time just as it was night time. 3days 3 nights.
Don't get confused with the 24 hrs or the days of the week.
Back then it would have been day1-2-3-4 etc until the sabbath and then it starts again.
The Lord had to die before 3pm as all the lambs have to be killed and prepared before this time ready for the sabbath.

Amazing Facts, I believe since the BIBLICAL Feasts pointed to CHRIST who would die as the LAMB of GOD to take away our sins, it is no coincidence that it was during the Passover when HE was crucified, and that literally it was during the midst of the week in that prophetic year (midst of the 7-years) (Daniel 9:27). Why I say so: Scripture says HE would be in the belly of the earth three days and three nights, and the BIBLE's reckoning of a day is "evening and morning", not the apostate world's reckoning. The TIME of the death and resurrection of CHRIST has been misinterpreted to justify Sunday-observance. Although Daniel 9:27 is about prophetic years, It is also literal in terms of the time when CHRIST would be in the belly of the earth. The Question: WHEN DID JESUS DIE? Is also answered by Daniel 9:27. WHEN DOES PROPHECY SAY CHRIST would be crucified? (see Daniel 9:27). Daniel 9:27 And HE shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate. What day is the midst of the week? ---The fourth day of the week (Wednesday !!). If we stick to GOD’s calendar, and GOD’s time, we will see clearly that CHRIST died on a Wednesday, spent three days and three nights in the grave. HE resurrected towards end of the Sabbath, Saturday, not on Sunday morning, as believed by so many Christians, especially those who maintain that Sunday is the Sabbath.

Tiberius Ceaser was a Roman Emperor from 14 AD to 37 AD.
In the Gospel of Luke, he writes about Tiberius Ceaser and the start of John the Baptist Ministry.
[Luke 3:1-2] In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius
Caesar...the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the
wilderness.
15 years after A.D. 14 is A.D. 29. Shortly after John the Baptist Ministry started Jesus came to him to be Baptized.
The Gospel of Luke (3:23) states that Jesus was "about 30 years of age"
when He was Baptized by John. If John's Ministry started at A.D. 29 and
Jesus was "about 30" when Baptized by John. That makes His birth
between 1B.C. and A.D. 1.
We find the Length of Jesus' Ministry in the Gospel according to John with these verses:
John 2:13 And the Jews' Passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
John 6:4 And the Passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh.
John 11:55 And the Jews' Passover was nigh at hand: and many went out
of the country up to Jerusalem before the Passover, to purify
themselves.
If Jesus' Ministry started around A.D. 29 when He
was, "about" 30, and lasted 3 Passovers, that only leads to two possible
dates. A.D. 32 or A.D. 33.
Passover for AD 32-33 was Monday, April 14, A.D. 32 and Friday, April 3, A.D. 33.
From Scripture we know His Crucifixion was the day before the Sabbath. Which
makes April 3, 33 A.D. the day of His Crucifixion at 33 years old.

Pastor Doug is mistaken on his extrapolation of the three days. God's calendar is lunar. Day starts at sunset. Jesus was crucified in the Passover day. Which is established by God on the 14th day of the first month (Month of the Aviv). The day after Passover is the feast of unleavened bread which is a High Sabbath (Holiday) which is full moon (Leviticus). People confuse this day with Saturday and that's why we celebrate good friday. The bible doesn't say He resurrected on the first day of the week (Sunday) it says the tomb was discovered empty Saturday at sunset by Mary starting the first day of the week (Mathew 28). By using arithmetic we know Jesus was crucified on a Wednesday which was the day when lambs where sacrificed that year (Passover). Buried Wednesday night. So he was in the tomb Wednesday night, Thursday night and Friday night and all day Thursday, all day Friday and all day Saturday, resurrecting on the third day, Saturday evening before sunset (Lord of the Sabbath). Three Days and Three nights. Jesus is a jew, you cannot understand him and the time context unless you understand God's calendar which is lunar and His feasts (they are not jewish feasts they are God's feasts Leviticus) Jesus complied with the requirements of the feast. i.e. questioning Him at the temple (Inspection of the lamb for blemishes), Cesar "I find no guilt in this man" (High priest I find no blemish in this lamb), High Priest after slaughtering the lamb "It is finished", Jesus says same at the cross "It is finished".

According to the biblical calendar, Passover is on friday the 14th day of Aviv, a sixth day of the week. The last supper would have to have been the evening of the 13th day. The Sabbath would be the following day, the 15th of Aviv. For him to be in the grave 3 days and 3 nights, he would have to be following postponements and there would have been 2 Sabbaths, one weekly and one annual with a day in between.

Sorry Don, don't quite understand what you mean Weekly vs annual sabbath?? The Jews have two types of Sabbaths. Saturday which is the weekly Sabbath and Gods Holy day festivities which they call a High Sabbath. The day after Passover is a Holy Convocation (or Holiday) which is a High Sabbath (The Feast of Unleavened Bread) and it presumes the same rules as the weekly Sabbath. Read John 19:31 (KJV) "The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away."
Except for when the Feast of Unleavened Bread falls on a weekly Sabbath. There'll always be two Sabbaths in Passover week.

I do agreed with almost everything you said, but never the less, I found a crucial issue on the topic, the use of the phrase "first day of the week". That is a totally mistranslated when the original word was Sabbaton (Sabbath). First of the Sabbath mean, counting after Passover 7 sabbaths in which he rose on the first of the sabbaths. If you change the text to first of the sabbath it all makes more sense. I will encourage you to find every verse that says "first day of the week and replace it with first of the sabbath (including Acts 20:7 when that happened right after passover).
I'm not sure about this, but sometimes I think that some pastors cant go against what the conference i is telling them to say.

Read carefully Matthew 28 v 2-9 you will discover that "And behold" of verse 2 did not reveal the earthquake that happened at the resurrection of Jesus happened at a very distant time from the sight of the women. Obviously Saturday was past and it must have happened on Sunday. Take for instance the ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven the angels spoke to the disciples of Jesus who witnessed the ascension. Although, the women may not have seen Jesus rising from the dead, no doubt they earthquake and the presence of the angels seem to be in near view to the women. The connecting verses to Matthew 28 v 1 doesn't suggest events happened as far as Saturday before the women left early Sunday to approach the tomb. Mark 16 v 9"Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week" compliments the truth of His resurrection on Sunday. Moreover, since after the earthquake the angels sat on the stone rolled away from the tomb until the arrival of the women, therefore to place his resurrection on Saturday implies they sat on the tomb all through the evening/night of Saturday until Sunday morning. Please what were they doing sitting on the stone for such a very long time? As long as what you understand by 3 days and 3 nights of Jesus in the tomb seem to be 72 hours period, you must give us the very time Jesus was buried and the very time He rose from the dead. Without these two the arithmetic calculation you spoke of remains an error.

I don't understand were is the error on my arithmetic. You are ignoring Yeshuas words in Mathew. He Said the ONLY sign is the sign of Jonah. He was very specific and adamant on Three Days and Three nights. He was precise and not subject as to what a day might mean in measure. It is Three full periods of daylight, and three full periods of darkness. The tomb was discovered empty at dawn on Sunday so it doesn't count as a day. So to assume that He resurrected after sunset on Saturday is quite consistent with resurrection on Sunday since the day starts at sunset. Saturday after sunset is actually the beginning of Sunday. Since Yeshua was so precise, it is safe to surmise that He resurrected right after completing the full period of daylight on the Sabbath which would be after sunset thus on the first day of the week. Remember He is the Lord of the Sabbath (Matt 12:7-8 (KJV))
The fact remains there is no escape to this since this is pure arithmetic. He was crucified on a Wednesday right before sunset, being in the tomb all Wednesday night, all Thursday night and all Friday Night, All daylight Thursday, All daylight Friday, and all daylight Saturday, resurrecting after sunset on Saturday evening. Thus first day of the week. To ignore what Yeshua spoke as the only very specific sign to an incredulous generation is ill conceived, since He made a big deal of it.

Yes! Jesus was very adamant on the 3 days and 3 nights and that the ONLY SIGN is the SIGN of JONAH, but the problem now is on how to apply the 3 DAYS and the 3 NIGHTS. Jesus more than once stated in Matthew that He will rise again from the dead THE 3 DAY not after 3 DAYS (Matthew 16 v21: 20 v 19): meaning His resurrection will NOT be after 24Hrs x 3 has expired. Like I wrote previously that this your position demanded you MUST tell us the EXACT MINUTE, SECOND and HOUR Jesus was buried and rose again. Without these your advocacy for “Three full periods of daylight, and three full periods of darkness.” Is mere assumption as you suggested in your comment and NEVER Arithmetic accuracy. The Holy Spirit has DECODED the 3 DAYS and 3 NIGHTS of Jesus in the heart of the earth of Matthew 12 v 40 and I presented it below. The Arithmetic He guided me to present can’t even be proved wrong by the world’s best mathematicians. Another error you’ve just committed is to suggest the DAY STARTS AT SUNSET. Please sir, you do greatly err not knowing the Holy Scripture. We are taught in Genesis 1 v 5 that DAY is LIGHT and EVENING and MORNING is DAY. From the obvious reality LIGHT begins to shine in the MORNING and NOT in the EVENING: for this the day can’t start at sunset. This your assumption simply means a day begins and then follows by nigh before the continuation of the same day. That's confusion. Secondly, if Saturday after sunset is the beginning of Sunday as you suggested, please kindly tell us when the NIGHT of Saturday started and ended also when the NIGHT of Sunday begins and ends?

Sorry Faith but your assumptions are not entirely correct. First your conclusion of me not knowing the holy scripture is not correct since I'm studious of the word. I suggest you inquire on to God's calendar which is lunar, not solar. Also research into God's feasts and holy convocations (commonly called Jewish feasts, which they are not. They are God's feasts and are a foreshadowing of things pertinent to Yeshua) You cannot understand Yeshua unless you study the Jewish way of living and traditions which come from the Old testament and God's commandments.
You say the day starts at sunrise on the assumption of when light shines. That is not biblical. That is just an assumption. Genesis clearly states in creation that the day starts with evening (sunset). Example: Gen 1:5 (KJV) "And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day." (Please note that evening comes first in a day which makes perfect sense since in the beginning everything was dark and empty and God created the light)
Furthermore the gospels Mathew and Mark clearly state that it was in the evening that Christ was buried on the day of preparation which is the day before a Sabbath or Holiday (Holy Convocation). This is obvious since God said there could be no labor on a sabbath or holy convocation (read Leviticus). Even today people of Jewish faith start the observance of the Sabbath at sunset on Friday. And Yeshua, being a jew, observed it accordingly. So it is reasonable to conclude that He had to be buried right before sunset since once the sun is down it marks the beginning of a holy convocation (Feast of Unleavened Bread) and no work can be done. To do so otherwise would be in violation of God's commandment at would invalidate Yeshua as the Messiah.
Jesus was very specific in using in using 3 days and 3 nights in reference to periods of light and darkness as not to confuse it with the total definition of a day meaning the cycle of two stages in a day which is evening and morning. As I stated before this is not rocket science. Yeshua was buried in the evening right before sunset at the end of the Day of the Passover which was the day of preparation for the feast of unleavened bread which is a holy convocation.
So what do we know from the bible?
1- That Yeshua died in the afternoon.
2-That He was buried in the evening at the end of the passover day.
3-That the only sign is the son of man will be buried for 3 days and 3 nights
4-That a day is defined as the evening and a morning.
4-That the tomb was discovered empty very early on the 1st day of the week (Sunday) so Sunday cannot be counted as a day (full period of light).
So the only possible day of crucifixion in order for the tomb to be empty by Sunday early morning is Wednesday. Considering what we know from the gospel it is reasonable to surmise that Yeshua resurrected sometime before or right after sunset on the Sabbath Day, making Him the Lord of the Sabbath. This presents no conflict with the celebration of resurrection day on Sunday. But it definitely debunks the idea that Yeshua was crucified on a Friday. Do the math.
In response to your question the Sabbath starts at sunset on Friday and the first day of the week (Sunday) starts at sunset after the Sabbath (Saturday). God never gave names to the days of the week except for the 7th day that He named Sabbath all other names of the week referring to some kind of pagan god or planet. Also in Jewish world all of God's holy convocations are called High Sabbaths. That's why the confusion of the crucifixion being on a Friday.
Peace in Yeshua

PART 1:
Being studious of the word doesn’t imply you’re rightly dividing the word of truth, hence, it’s understanding what you read that matters the most. How do one conduct research into God’s feasts and holy convocation if not through the Holy Scriptures?
Most historians as Josephus puts me off each time I read their works for the simple reason he could write extensively about Melchisedec encounter with Abraham: a very short event of not more than 2 verses in the Scripture; more than 3,000 years before his birth, but has not much to write about Jesus Christ who came and shook the whole Jewish territory less than 50 years before his birth (Josephus).
I understand Jesus Christ not by Jewish way of living, but by personal encounter with Him, revelation of Him in the Holy Scripture and leading of the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ rejected the Jewish tradition during His days because it was set up against God’s commandment (Matthew 15 v 3).
Yes the day starts at sunrise and that is Biblical. The Evening preceded the Morning in Gen 1 v 5 and other places in the chapter being part of the remnant of the Day after each creation. Not really as preceding the Morning as being the beginning of the day. Most importantly Gen 1 v 5 made it abundantly clear, the LIGHT is the DAY and the DARKNESS is the NIGHT. Therefore, DAY starts when LIGHT begins to shine not in the EVENING when LIGHT begins to recede. You said “Even today people of Jewish faith start the observance of the Sabbath at sunset on Friday.” Please why don’t you use the right word “PREPARE” instead of “OBSERVE” as this will easily help you understand the “PREPARATION DAY” mentioned in the Gospels. This day is Friday. The Holy Scripture spoke of various Holy Convocations, but Exodus 12 v 5-6, 18: Lev 23 v 5-6 spoke specifically of the 14 Day when Passover shall be killed and eaten while the feast of unleavened bread begins 15th day until 21st day. This 15th day month of Abib was a Sabbath when the Jews left Egypt.
In honesty I relied greatly on Lunar calendar as you advice and I doubt if you follow and understand it. When you follow Lunar calendar you'll notice every 15th day of month of Abib becomes a Sabbath, hence, 8th, 15th, 22nd & 29th are all Sabbaths of every Lunar month because the first day is adjudged the “moon day” after which the counting begins.

Continued:
The calendar being used by most of these present day Jews are faulty making them err greatly on the issue of fixed Sabbath days.
This error led them to invent the so-called “Rules of Postponement” very alien to the Holy Scripture.
Jesus Christ couldn’t have been buried on Wednesday but on Friday (the Jewish preparation day for the Sabbath) as Mark, Luke & John clearly stated (Mark 15 V 42: LUKE 23 v 51-54: John 19 v 14, 42) and He rose early Sunday as Mark clearly stated (Mark 16 v 9).
Please do note that when I use Wednesday, Friday and Saturday am only trying to use what is understandable to us convey my message as you did by insisting Jesus was buried on Wednesday, hence, which Day Monday to Friday represented don’t really matter what matters is the consistency of the Day of Sabbath using Lunar calendar. The point is using Lunar calendar the days of Sabbaths remain 8Th, 15th, 22nd & 29th of every month and this is Scriptural considering the elaboration made in Leviticus 23 entirely. I have stated that Jesus 3 days & 3 nights cannot be interpreted to mean 72Hrs of 3 full days. If you don’t accept, then of necessity you must tell us the exact second, minute and hour Jesus was buried and rose again from the dead.
I have used the Holy Scripture explaining the issues of day and night and that it gave us the understanding and acknowledged Day and Night that begin together each day (Mark 1 v 35).
It is because of desperation to realize 72hrs of 3 full days that many continue to project the opinion that Jesus Christ must have been buried on Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday, but according to the Holy Scripture He was buried a day before the Sabbath and rose again first day of the week (Sunday).
Moreover, Jesus Christ repeated consistently He will rise again and rose the 3rd day. With such statement of fact from the Lord, He has cancelled every insinuation of 72Hrs of 3 full days. If we follow Lunar calendar every day before a Sabbath is Friday and every Day after the Sabbath is Sunday. Friday remains the day of preparation and the 14th day of Ex 12 v 5 and Lev 23 v 5, while 15 day remains the Sabbath.
My question yet to be answered: “If Saturday after sunset is the beginning of Sunday as you suggested, please kindly tell us when the NIGHT of Saturday started and ended also when the NIGHT of Sunday begins and ends?”
The Good Lord our Savior Jesus Christ bless your life the more.

Clearly Genesis 1:5 states 'And it was evening and it was morning, one day'. G_d created the world, all that it is in it and time itself. First there was nightime (darkness) and then there was daytime (light). While a secular calendar runs from midnight to midnight, a Jewish calendar has always run from time immemorial from sunset or rather the fall of night to sunset. This can easily be seen in Jewish celebrations and commemorations and rules for living (eg for Shabbat one must not work from sunset of our Friday to sunset of our Saturday - there are a few exceptions such as fast days that begin at dawn). One teacher (Aron Moss) pointed out that the loveliness of this is [not only obedience to the order established by G_d] that it bears witness to the fact that light ultimately conquers darkness... that Truth and Light will win out...

Please don't evade the question: "If Saturday after sunset is the beginning of Sunday as you suggested, please kindly tell us when the NIGHT of Saturday started and ended also when the NIGHT of Sunday begins and ends?"
Thanks for the saying of "One teacher (Aron Moss)" Please try and ask him if he's born again and filled with the Holy Spirit. Let him tell us exactly why the sun rises in the Morning of each day and why the same day should begin in the evening. Does the Jewish calendar also say evening of every day precedes the morning of the same day? If yes: kindly tell us how.
Most people are simply desperate to establish error in the name of doing research. They twist the Holy Scripture to validate their so called researches and histories. Let us consider it your own way: What probably you're saying is that the Jewish calendar for example joins the evening of 15 May 2017 with the morning of 16 May 2017 to make up 15 of May 2017. Really! Please answer this simple question: Why is our 15 (Monday) May 2017 the same with Israel's 15 (Monday) May 2017?

Read
Matt 28:1-6 (KJV)
"1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulcher. 2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. 3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: 4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. 5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. 6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. "
Also John 19:31 (KJV)
"31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away." Please note: the sabbath was a High sabbath.
In Summary:
As it began to dawn On Sunday Mary went to the tomb and the Angel tells them Christ was already gone! All this says is that Jesus wasn't in the tomb at dawn. So He had to be Resurrected before dawn. What time exactly we don't know but if Christ said Three days and Three nights it has to be such as to meet this parameter or else He lied hence He wouldn't be the Messiah.
Consider this:
1- Day starts at sunset.
2- Gods Feasts are considered High Sabbaths. Please note the distinction (High) it means that it is a Sabbath but not necessarily Saturday.
3- The Feast of Unleavened Bread (the day after Passover) is a High Sabbath (Holiday). (Leviticus)
4- Mary discovers the empty tomb very early (dawn) on Sunday.
Knowing these parameters we can conclude the following.
He was crucified on a Wednesday (Passover). Had to be buried before sunset Wednesday For at sunset begins Thursday, a High Sabbath (The Feast of Unleavened Bread). So in normal days, He was in the tomb all night Wednesday , all night Thursday, and all night Friday. And all day Thursday, all day Friday and all day Saturday. Rising at the end of the Sabbath or after sunset on Saturday which is the beginning of Sunday. This is pretty straight forward.

It is not the law itself; but, the Spirit of the law. . . Truly, let us remember that this perfect Lamb that was slain before the foundation of the world did so in the heart of man nailing our sin to His cross bringing us with Him into Life on the third day. Praise the Lord. God bless.

3 days 3 nights. the Feast of Unleavened Bread starts with a Sabbath and ends with a Sabbath and also has the weekly Sabbath within. this is the way God set it up, not a man made Jewish tradition. we've been ignoring the feasts and this is why we are confused! "come out of her My people!"

You said: You don't believe God much do you?
I should rather think you are the one who don’t believe God much. The reason being that you fail woefully to believe HIM:
Genesis 1 v 5”And God called the LIGHT DAY, and the DARKNESS HE called NIGHT. And the EVENING and the MORNING were the first DAY.”
As you can see, God called the LIGHT DAY and the DARKNESS NIGHT, but you said DARKNESS is EVENING instead of the NIGHT God called it. God said EVENING and MORNING are the 1st DAY, meaning EVENING plus MORNING equal to LIGHT equal to DAY. Why was God silent here about NIGHT? It is because He has wisely DIVIDED the LIGHT which is the DAY from the DARKNESS which is NIGHT in Genesis 1 v 4”and DIVIDED the LIGHT from the DARKNESS.” Moreover God said the LIGHT is GOOD, but of the DARKNESS He was silent because unfruitful works are majorly done in the NIGHT which is DARKNESS. It was also in the NIGHT called DARKNESS that the wicked betrayed and crucified Jesus.
Concerning Mark 15 v 40-42 you do greatly err not understanding the Holy Scriptures. Jesus was crucified by 3rd HOURS being 03:00 HOUR while HE probably died between 09:00-10:00AM the same Mark 15 v 25, 34-37. This time of His death was not NIGHT but DAY and the women left after His death not after His crucifixion.
You raised up another confusion when you stated thus: “As the sun rises being still the same day as the night and evening before Christ is crucified at the 9 hour and dies in the AFTERNOON at about the 3rd hour.”
Please how can this your time be meaningful? Christ crucified at the 9th hour and dies at the 3rd hour? Please read my earlier comments today it solved the problem of this 3rd hour and so on.

Taking us seriously is very important. The whole thing reminds me of the Holy commandment teaching me that "many evil works are executed in darkness" and that's exactly when they crucified Jesus.

1.COMMON SENSE AGAINST THE BIBLE VERSES? Let me simply use the words of Jesus Christ and other Holy Scriptures to remind you that a DAY begins in the MORNING and not EVENING. Moreover, you needed to discard your “YOUR COMMON SENSE” idea that 3rd hour in the Bible means our present 9.00 AM because HOLY SCRIPTURE STATES OTHERWISE. Matthew 20 v 1”For the kingdom------, which went out EARLY in the MORNING------. V 2 And when -----for a penny a DAY, he sent them into his vineyard. V 3 And he went about the 3rd hour, and saw OTHERS ----V 5 And again ----6th and 9th hour,---. V 6 and about 11th hour he went out, and found others. V 8 So when EVEN was COME,--------. V 12 Saying, These last have wrought but ONE HOUR,-------------.”
Now compare with Matthew 20 v 1 with Mark 1 v 35”And in the MORNING” this means {early in the MORNING] “rising up a great while before DAY” this means {rising up in the MORNING when NIGHT is still much, moreover DAY was not used as in the sense of 24 HOURS period including NIGHT, but please do NOTE that EVERY PART OF MORNING is part of DAY by reckoning]. Now read once again my interpretation of this Jesus’ 3 DAYS and 3 NIGHTS and come to terms that 00:00AM to 04:00 AM which I stated was both DAY and NIGHT is scriptural and not any Gregorian calendar.
Looking at the parable and going by your “common sense” assumption that 3rd hour is 9.00 AM, EVENING then begins with them by our present 6.00 PM because V 8 says “So when the EVEN was come” while V 12 says the 11th hour laborers “wrought but ONE HOUR”. V 2 reminded us that the first laborers were hired earlier than the laborers hired by the 3rd hour representing your assumed 9.00 AM.

18 hrs is 18 hrs counting from 00.00 Am to 18.00 Pm that is 6.00pm in the Evening.
To recognize the 24 HOURS in a full DAY circle each must be counted beginning at 01:00 AM to 23:00PM. The point is 3rd WATCH is the SAME with 3rd HOUR (Acts 23 v 23) in the Holy Scripture (In 1 Samuel 11 V 11”WATCH” is referred to as “MORNING WATCH”). There are many scriptural verses that speak of the DAY in the sense of 24 HOURS DAY/NIGHT and many also that speaks of the DAY as MORNING/EVENING sometimes more than 12 HOURS especially when morning begins to be counted from 00:00 AM and EVENING ENDS PROBABLY at 20:00PM. Therefore, Peter and John (s) 9th Hour of Acts 3 v 1 is 09:00 Am. In essence I understand and agreed with the Holy Scripture more than any other history. We are instructed to “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing THE WORD OF TRUTH.”-11 Timothy 2 v 15. I suggest that instead of studying the “then Jewish calendar” let’s study the “then Scriptural revealed truth.” To determine how many Hrs Jesus Christ was in the tomb before He rose from the dead will be difficult since we are not told, but by sincere speculation following the Holy Scripture He was buried early Evening probably around 15:00- 17:00 in the evening (Matthew 27 v 57-60) and resurrected probably around Sunday morning - 00:04 - 06:00 (Mark 16 v 2). Hence, how many Hrs is only being speculative. Thanks a lot if I have helped you.

What about Genesis 1:5?
And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. Seems that he lists the evening before the morning for a reason, no?

Yes for a reason. The Evening being part of the remnant of the Day after each creation. Not really as preceding the Morning. Most importantly, the LIGHT is the DAY and the DARKNESS is the NIGHT. The LIGHT do not begin to shine in the EVENING, but in the MORNING. Read carefully other things I wrote concerning Jesus 3 days and 3 nights for clarity.
Thanks.

2.Mark 4 v 27”---, and rise NIGHT and DAY” Mark 5 v 5”---, NIGHT and DAY” Luke 2 V 37”----, NIGHT and DAY”-: (These are NIGHTS separated from DAYS by implication NOT 24 HOURS periods that included NIGHTS). Mark 6 v 35”And when the DAY was FAR SPENT” V 47”When EVEN was COME” V 48”------, and about the 4th WATCH of the NIGHT” (Luke 12 v 38”And if He shall come in the 2nd WATCH, or come in the 3rd Watch”). NOW I ASK: going by your calculation, when does EVENING which is part of the DAY according to Genesis 1 END since your common sense placed it as to begin 18:00PM considering the parable? When does 1st WATCH begin and when is 4th WATCH which are all NIGHT PERIODS? If you believe that DAY begins at EVENING you’ve misunderstood Jesus’ 12 HOURS in the DAY of John 11 V 9 you quoted because you seem to have the opinion that 12 HOURS implies 06:00 AM to 18:00 PM. Truly Jesus was right because there are only 12 HOURS in the DAY: the DAY when we can WALK with the LIGHT and see our WAYS clearly. This can at best be described as the DAY which begins at 06:00AM to 18:00PM depending on place example Mark 1 v 35: Exodus 18 V 13: Luke 6 V 13 . It is obvious we have 24 HOURS circle that completes our 1 DAY which includes DAY and NIGHT. To recognize this 24 HOURS each must be counted beginning at 01:00 AM to 23:00PM. The point is 3rd WATCH is the SAME with 3rd HOUR in the Holy Scripture (In 1 Samuel 11 V 11”WATCH” is referred to as “MORNING WATCH”).
Luke 2 v 37”----, NIGHT and DAY” Luke 6 v12”---, and continued ALL NIGHT in prayers,” V 13”And when it was DAY.” -:(Once again DAY was NOT used as 24 HOURS period to include NIGHT). John 6 V16”When the EVEN was now come” V 22”The DAY FOLLOWING” John 20 V 18”Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples” V 19”Then the SAME DAY at EVENING”
Acts 3 v 1”Now Peter and John ----the temple at the HOUR OF PRAYER, BEING THE 9th HOUR.” ACTS 23 V 23”------, at the 3rd HOUR of the NIGHT.” ALL THESE SHOULD RECONCILE THE DIVERGENCE OPINIONS.

Jesus said He will be in the grave for 3 DAYS and 3 NIGHTS and He equally said He will rise again the 3rd DAY. It is now left with you to find out the message of 3 DAYS and 3 NIGHTS. The best you've done was avoid the very saying of Jesus "Rise again the 3rd DAY" and embrace the words of His accusers "after 3 DAYS" Now tell me: do you believe Jesus more or His accusers? I have always stayed to His words giving them the right meanings. You are the one avoiding inspired Holy Scripture as Mark 15 v 25 by manufacturing a non-scriptural history for self support.

I am beginning to think you are confused and very desperate to convince me. Earlier you said the DAY begins in the EVENING, now Jesus who was buried in the EVENING according to you was buried as one DAY was ENDING. Read your contradictions: " So Genesis says "and the evening and the morning was the first day." So what comes first? Evening does! And so from the setting of the sun all thru darkness is called EVENING And when the sun rises and thru it's setting is called the MORNING." and "Since Christ was put in the grave as one day was ending and another was beginning we can start with the 1st NIGHT."
Please settle yourself here. My point is EVENING can't be the beginning of the the DAY as well as the ENDING of it.

Please go below and read my other submissions that settled your suggestions. I don't need Gregorian calendar to understand the Holy Scripture, rather the Holy Spirit is my teacher, hence, wherever the said Gregorian calendar supported the Holy Scripture, so be it. You! after writing a long submission from your so called historians comes to accuse Gregorian calendar. Does it make sense?
You said "The hours are counted for the first rising of the sun" any supporting Bible verses. I guess none. So why make it important while accusing Gregorian calendar?

You said much without Biblical evidence. The EVENING and the MORNING as recorded in Genesis 1 vs 5,8,13,19,23,31 never suggested the DAY begins at EVENING, but that EVENING and the MORNING are what make up the “LIGHT” called “DAY” separated from the “DARKNESS” called “NIGHT” as seen in Genesis 1 v 5”And God called the LIGHT DAY, and the DARKNESS HE called NIGHT. And the EVENING and the MORNING were the first DAY.” This shouldn’t be difficult to understand by a Spirit filled believer. I’m sure many scholars and researchers may miss the message. Please tell me how you’ve used the Bible to explain your points. I have stated them below for your personal study.
Moreover, you needed to convince yourself that 3rd hour is 9th hour by supporting with some Bible evidences

Sorry you do greatly err not knowing or understanding the Holy Scriptures. The Holy Scripture is not a book for intellectuals, but for the spirituals. I see so many Christian scholars, but very few Spirit filled Christians. At best you insinuated that: “God tells us what a day is, when it starts and that evening comes before morning” Rather God tells us that LIGHT is DAY made up of EVENING and MORNING that Separated the DARKNESS from NIGHT in Gen 1 v 5, but He never told us EVENING was the beginning of the DAY and precedes MORNING. That the EVENING comes first as was written variously in Genesis 1, I suggest you allow the Holy Spirit to give you skill on why it was thus stated, but I have shown enough scriptural supports that the EVENING never begins the DAY. Now tell me your opinion about each of those Holy scriptures I presented above and afterwards I will tell you why EVENING precedes the MORNING as presented variously in each of the subsequent creations in Genesis 1.
Moreover, you needed to convince yourself that 3rd hour is 9th hour by supporting with some Bible evidences. Concerning 1 Peter 3 v 19-20 I will give you a simple assignment. Please tell me is Luke 16 v 19-31 a parable or true life story as presented by Jesus Christ?

Unfortunately you close your eyes on what Jesus Christ and other faithful (angels and men ) said in Matthew 16 v 21: 17 v 23: 20 v 19, Luke 24 v 7, 21, 46 that His resurrection was to be ON THE THIRD DAY and accepted the lies of His enemies. 'And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.' The pattern is reiterated (as often is the case in Scripture) to make the point strongly. Evening PRECEDES morning. Nighttime precedes daytime. Darkness precedes light (just as some would say chaos precedes creation) .... And again, from time immemorial, Judaism has maintained teh pattern of evening beginning the '24 hr period of a 'day' which is composed of both nighttime and daytime - sad we have not a better term for both). The night then daytime pattern is Reiterated in Zechariah: asee https://biblehub.com/interlinear/zechariah/14-7.htm

Well if this is the only conclusion that you can arrive at then maybe a time for re-assessment in not only how you interpret and understand scripture but also what it is you believe. This forum has tackled one of, if not the biggest miracle/sign in the biblical text.
The sign of Jonah which is 3 fold
1st - a storm formed because of his fleeing from the duty he was commissioned to do and was thrown into the sea whilst the sea was raging and survived (1st miracle - anyone else would have drowned)
2nd - whilst in the raging sea, he was swallowed by a big fish (2nd miracle - he tarried 3 days and 3 nights - anyone else would have died)
3rd - he emerged after the period, from the belly of the fish alive (3rd miracle - anyone else would have died)
as you see a triple miracle...lets go over it again
Thrown in the sea (so what?) a violently raging sea - ok, he's dead!!
No he's not!! wow that's a miracle
Swallowed by a Whale/Big Fish (so what?) - ok, he's dead!!
No he's not!! wow that's another miracle
He's washed up on the shore 3 days and 3 nights later (so what?) - ok he's dead!!
No he's not!! wow - another miracle!!
3 miracles in the sign of Jonah, how did he survive such an ordeal that anybody else would have perished in? Answer is only by Gods Will (Jesus taught "Thy will (not my will)be done on Earth as it is in Heaven)
Did Jesus come through the sign "as Jonah was" as prophesied?
According to your calculations of dates -
1 - yes, he spent 3 days 3 nights in the heart of the earth
2 - No, he wasn't alive (As Jonah was, in the belly of the Whale) during the period.
3 - yes, he came out of the heart of the earth alive.
2 out of 3 isn't bad, its similar but not the same.
I just wonder - why did Joseph of Arimathea give an unused tomb if he knew Jesus were dead? he could've given a tomb which already housed dead people, Jesus would not have been offended by the stench of rotting corpses as he too was dead. (Was the tomb a safe haven for the assumed dead Jesus to recuperate?). Also was it or is it a Jewish custom to embalm someone 3 days after they were buried? (surely embalming is a procedure used to preserve the body until it was buried but in this case the body was already buried so what was the need for embalming?)or did the women come with healing ointment for the wounds as they knew that the Messiah was still alive?

embalming is not a procedure used for preserving a corpse til burial ... It is away to reduce putrefaction of a corpse. However, Jewish practice in no way equals ancient Egyptian practices incisions and removal of organs etc... . The women are not embalmers in the Egyptian sense; they are respectful Jewish women seeking to prepare to add to preparation already undertaken by Nicodemus and Joseph) (see John: 19:38+:39. He[Joseph] was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds.e 40 Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs. 41 At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid. 42 Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.a body for burial or in this case placement in a stone tomb. GIVEN this account Jesus is most certainly dead.

1st you mentioned (Genesis 49:20) which reads "Out of Asher his bread shall be fat and shall yield royal dainties" Which I fail to recognise what it has to do with the house of Judah. Next point..you mention Paul who wrote most of the books of the new testament which is probably why so much confusion as the teachings of Paul's run contrary to the teachings of Jesus' own. Let's be fair..using a sore subject - Imagine if you will, "After the 2nd world war, if Hitler had survived and he presented himself to the Jews saying "Oh people that I have persecuted and murdered for years, as I was making a journey to Berlin, I was blinded by a magnificent light and from the light I heard the voice of Moses who questions me as to why I am cutting off and killing his people, then he (Moses) commissioned me to be a Messenger to you people that I was killing" In honesty, do you think that the Jews would not only accept his story but also take his words over the message and law that Moses bought? Well this is what has happened in Christianity. with Paul over Jesus, so much so that In his book "The 100" documenting the most influential people in history, michael j hart has ranked Paul over Jesus because his teachings are more prominent than that of Christ Jesus's in today's Christianity.
Then you have asked
"So tell me again how Christ will not know Gentiles who have faith in Him and why?"
well here is something to kick start the why?
Check again Matthew 7:16 to 20 where is mentions by their fruits you shall know them.
Now a good stock of the Christians today do not observe the Law like Jesus observed it. There are amongst them, eaters of swine, uncircumcised males and those that believe only faith will take them forward to the paradise (Faith with out works is dead - isn't this what Jesus said) Now if all of those things that Jesus had taught and followed is not adhered to how will he recognise those people to be of his flock? Did he teach people to bring musical instruments into the place where God is worshipped and make musical concerts and throw themselves down on the floor claiming to be in the spirit? If all these things are foreign to the teachings of Jesus and this is being practised amid the people who claim to be his followers, how can anyone be surprised when he turns and says "flee from me you people of iniquity - I do not know you"

yes it is..being hung up on the time factor and providing figures can only provide half the solution of the prophesy if you get your numbers to work for you.
Jesus said "AS Jonah was in the belly of the whale"
admittedly, yes, we take the time factor into consideration but the miracle or sign in full is that Jonah was ALIVE. Again As Jonah was in the belly of the Whale!! How was Jonah in the belly of the whale??? Alive, Alive, Alive!! whilst in the whale as most or even anybody who abided for that length of time would be in the belly of a beast would be presumed dead - the same way anybody in the belly or depths of the Earth for that length of time would also be presumed dead however - if he were dead, then where is the miracle or the sign because that is what is expected. The Miracle/sign is something that arrives where rational thinking cannot explain. The juggling of numbers is good to arrive at the required number but that is still not equalled to the miracle of Jonah if Jesus was dead inside the Earth.
Again, "As Jonah was in the Whale" Dead or alive?? Presumed dead by anyone who saw him swallowed probably the same as anyone who thought they saw Jesus entering the womb of the earth - "Presumed dead" but the reality was that both were alive and only under this condition can one say the miracle of Jonah was fulfilled through the prophesy of Jesus about himself.

And then to compound it HE says that when he returns (matt 7:23)he will say "go away from me! I dont know you"

I was raised Methodist and taught the same liturgical calendar for the Passion week that we're most familiar with: Sunday-Triumphal Entry, Monday/Tuesday-Teaching and turning over tables at the Temple, Wednesday-Day of Silence, Thursday-Last Supper and arrest, Friday-Crucifixion, Saturday-Sabbath, in the tomb and Sunday-Resurrection.
I too questioned where the 3 days and 3 nights in the tomb were. And why would Jesus be silent on Wednesday? He was in Jerusalem at Passover and he knew his time was near, he would be declaring and teaching and preaching even more! And why didn't the disciples celebrate the Passover meal with a lamb like everyone else did?
So I started to research the subject and found an answer that fits so beautifully into the scriptures and the Jewish tradition of the time. And I'll present this with the assumption that we all understand the Jewish week and that days started at sunset. But I will use our contemporary names for days of the week.
Sunday was the Triumphal Entry. Monday and Tuesday were Teaching and Cleansing of the Temple. Wednesday (Midweek) is when Jesus and his disciples had a Passover meal together in the Upper Room, however, this was not THE Passover meal which would include the sacrificed lamb. Wednesday evening is when Jesus prayed in the garden and was arrested. All night and into Thursday, Jesus was beaten and tried until Pontius Pilate agreed to crucify him that afternoon. Thursday afternoon, the day of Passover, while all the Jews were slaying their Passover lambs, Jesus was being hung on a cross. He died before sunset. In Jewish tradition, the day after Passover was always a Special Sabbath (which started Thursday evening). With Passover being on Thursday, both Friday and Saturday were Sabbaths that week. The first opportunity to prepare Jesus’s body would be Sunday morning, three days and three nights after his death.
For myself, this calendar of events matches the Jewish Passover tradition of that time, agrees with scripture and brings depth to Jesus, the lamb of God, being sacrificed for us on the day of Passover. (I apologize for the length of the post.)

Research is good, but it shouldn’t place us at loggerheads with the Holy inspired Scripture. Mark 15 v 25 is very explicit that Jesus was crucified at the third hour (03:00 AM). Please how did you come about He was crucified afternoon: just to validate the research? Moreover the events of Matthew 27 v 46-50: Mark 15 v 34-37: Luke 23 v 44-46 all suggested Jesus’ death was around 09: 00. This period cannot be afternoon or evening. You made many suggestions, but without a single Scripture as back-up neither did they resolve the issue of “Jesus was in the TOMB 3 DAYS and 3 NIGHTS”.

the third hour is not 3am - it is far more likely to be about 9am. ie the time when he was PUT ON THE CROSS. According to an Ancient Greek and Roman custom, the day was, like the night, divided into four parts, each consisting of three hours. This is relefected in early prayer practice among Christians eg Terce (3rd hr) Sext (6th hr) Nones (9th hr) after dawn NB Hours had no set length but varied for they started with dawn and ended at sunset when the hours of the night began (This is inaddition to a Jewish 'day' being from sunset to sunset). Sacrifices were offered in teh Monring and the Evening in the Temple and are specifically mentioned in Sciprture as is tthere recorded some of the disciples going to teh Temple at the 9th hours. In addition to Morning and Evening Prayer to accompany the sacrifices, there was prayer at the Third, Sixth and Ninth Hours of the day. This was adopted in early Christian monasticism and even daily practice...

Thanks for Ancient Greek and Roman custom, but what has that got to do with the Holy Scripture? In respect to this time arrangement: where will Ancient Greek and Roman custom place such Holy Scriptures as Mark 1 v 35”And in the MORNING”- this means {early in the MORNING] “rising up a great while before DAY” this means {rising up in the MORNING when NIGHT is still much? Is day or night? This is the more reason why all of you should simple accept my explanations concerning this Jesus' 3 Days & 3 Nights in the heart of the earth of Matthew 12 v 40.

Let me see if I can help you Gentiles. Daniel 9:26-27 says that the Messiah would be cut off in the MIDST OF THE WEEK (midst=middle=Wednesday). If the evening and night are one day, then the Sabbath starts on Friday evening, and ends Saturday evening. So, if Mary went to the tomb towards the end of the Sabbath yet it was still dark, then you have Wednesday day, Thursday day, Friday day. And, Wednesday night, Thursday night, Friday night; 3 days, 3 nights. And, thus, Mary going to the grave at the end of the Sabbath while it was yet dark. The Messiah was crucified on a Wednesday, in the "midst" of the week!
Sorry (not sorry) to burst you all's pagan belief. This is Old Testament Scripture. You know, where the laws and prophets are.

Your wrong. it says that Christ was crucified as the Sabbath hour was drawing night. The Sabbath for the Jews started on sundown Friday evening and ends on Saturday evening at sunset. That is why they wanted to get the body prepared, before the Sabbath.

Amazing Facts,
I believe since the BIBLICAL Feasts pointed to CHRIST who would die as the LAMB of GOD to take away our sins, it is no coincidence that it was during the Passover when HE was crucified, and that literally it was during the midst of the week in that prophetic year (midst of the 7-years) (Daniel 9:27). Why I say so: Scripture says HE would be in the belly of the earth three
days and three nights, and the BIBLE's reckoning of a day is "evening and morning", not the apostate world's reckoning.

So now, just WHICH day was the third day?
Notice the following verses from the 24th chapter of Luke:
Luke 24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
Luke 24:7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
Luke 24:21 But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, today is the third day since these things were done.
Luke 24:46 And (Jesus) said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
This passages in Luke makes it plain that on Sunday, the first day of the week , the two angels at the tomb said He would rise the third day), and on the same day on the road to Emmaus the two disciples stated it was the third day, and Jesus says he would rise the third day. So clearly Sunday was the third day the angels and Jesus were speaking of, the day on which Jesus rose from the grave. With that in mind, note this verse:
Mark 16:9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.
Those who advocate a Wednesday crucifixion must adhere to a Saturday afternoon resurrection, but the above verses, in conjunction with Mark 16:9, refute that very nicely.

For the shake of the argument we're going to agree with what is been said by the Video, if we examine that Thursday night is the day that he ment for the 3 days and 3 night lets have a look
Thursday night = 1 night
Friday morning = 1 day
Friday Night = 1 night
Saturday morning = 1 day
Saturday Night = 1 Night
Sunday morning ( his not there)
When we calculate how many days and nights urge that Therory of the above Video we can see clearly it's 3 nights and 2 days
So the math still does not add up. Jesus tells the Jews in Matthew 12:39 "“But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:"
So what was the Sign (miracle) of Jonas? Its not 3 days and 3 nights. So what was the Mirical of Jonas you ask? The miracle is that Jonas was "ALIVE" in the whales belly for 3 days and 3 nights. That's a miracle Jesus was referring to, when you expect a person to be died and he's not. Now lets look at Jesus What the Bible says about Jesus He was dieing when they bit him on the Cross and he was Dead when they but him on the heart of the Earth.
Lets ask is that Like Jonas or Unlike? Jonas was alive and Jesus Was not.
But you have not got the message clearly

Part One:
Matthew 12 v 40 Jesus 3 days and 3 nights in the heart of the earth was very literal. All we need do is understand various periods of the 24 hours day that make up night or day and that any part of each when Jesus stayed in the grave is accounted as a day or a night. We must acknowledge morning and night that begin together at 00.00 (midnight) as either day or night. Evening and Morning as the Bible says make up a day (Genesis 1 vs 5,8,13,19,23,31) repeated 6 times in Genesis 1. Our natural usage of Morning, Evening, Day and Night in their various applications will be of great help. Dictionary offered great help to us.
After Matthew 12 v 40 Jesus repeated to His disciples that He will be killed and rise again the THIRD DAY three times in Matthew 16 v 21: 17 v 23: 20 v 19. After His resurrection 2 angels, Jesus’ 2 disciples and Himself reiterated again separately in Luke 24 v 7, 21, 46 that His resurrection was to be on the third day. This means Matthew 12 v 40 never intended 72 hours of 3 days of 24 hours each.
With all these at the back of our mind we now compute Jesus’ 3 days and 3 nights in the heart of the earth.
Moreover it is not right in our spoken English to say 3 days and 3 nights once we are talking about 72 hours which in a sense simply represented 3 days of 24 hours of one full day each.
Jesus truly spent 3 DAYS and 3 NIGHTS in the heart of the earth as He promised.

Part Two:
This is how:
Jesus was crucified on 03:00 NIGHT/MORNING FRIDAY (Mark 15 v 25).
Jesus died between 09:00 -10:00 in the MORNING (Matthew 27 v 46-50: Mark 15 v 34-37Luke 23 v 46:John V 30).
He was buried early Evening probably around 15:00- 17:00 in the evening (Matthew 27 v 57-60). All these happened on Friday.
The other:
Friday – EVENING: Jesus was buried probably around 15:00- 19:00 = DAY 1.
Friday- between 19:00 – 20:00- Transition.
Friday- 20:00 – 00:00 Midnight= NIGHT 1.
Saturday- 00:00 - 04:00= NIGHT/MORNING = NIGHT/DAY= (DAY 2) or (NIGHT 2) but I prefer NIGHT 2 here.
Saturday- 04:00 - 06:00 = Transition.
Saturday- 06 - 12::00 Midday- 12:00- 15:00 afternoon-15:00- 19:00 Evening = DAY 2.
Saturday- between 19:00 – 20:00 = Transition.
Saturday- 20:00 – 00:00 Midnight= NIGHT 3.
Sunday- 00:00 - 04:00= NIGHT/MORNING = NIGHT/DAY. (NIGHT 3) or (DAY 3) I prefer DAY 3 here which properly suits the Sunday of His resurrection.
Concerning “in the heart of the earth” of Matthew 12 v 40 , Apostle peter showed us how it happened when he declared that Jesus “went and preached unto the spirits in prison” in 1 Peter 3 v 19-20: 4 v 6.

You messed to "make it" work. You counted Friday 2000-2359 as night one and then 0000-0400 for Saturday as two separate nights that are back to back.
Even you don't understand your calculation because on Saturday night you count 2000-2359 as night 3 and also identify 0000-0400 Sunday as part of night 3
This means you just magically added in an extra night to count at the beginning of Saturday, but didn't count the same for Sunday.

I didn't mess up to make it work, rather you seems to have messed up to accuse me without firstly understanding my presentation. What if you show us how Jesus 3 Days and 3 Nights were fulfilled? Don't you think you will be wiser? You failed woefully to understand the obvious reality. Please go back and study it will shock you how wrong you are. Those presentations remain the obvious reality and none has presented a better fact except mere conjectures of researches and non-provable history.
Thanks a lot for your contribution anyway!

Jesus said "this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them." Truly He meant it because so many are ever learning, but never able to come to the knowledge of the truth: Only Jesus can save.

But still the "3 days & 3 nights" term is not yet been resolved. Even if we may add few minutes to a day, there is not a single second can we implement for the 3rd night. Friday(1st day), Friday after evening(1st night), Saturday (2nd day), Saturday after evening (2nd night), Sunday(even if there is no evidence that Messiah was in the tomb for any second of the day time of Sunday) - the 3rd day..!! But where is the 3rd night here? Remember that was the ONLY sign, Messiah gave (Matthew 12:39). And it is very clear: Jonah 1: 17

So glad you asked this. I also wondered how we could manipulate 3 days and 3 nights from the time frame we're given. Then, through research, I found that the liturgical calendar is using the incorrect days. The bible doesn't say Jesus was crucified on Friday... we just assumed that because the Bible says the next day was the Sabbath. But in Jewish tradition, the day after Passover was a Special Sabbath. So both Friday and Saturday were Sabbaths. If Jesus had a Passover meal with his disciples on Wednesday and was betrayed Wednesday night, then he would have been crucified Thursday afternoon. This would put Jesus' crucifixion at the same time the Jews were slaughtering their Passover lambs. Jesus then would have been laid in the tomb the day of Passover, Thursday before sundown... this was his first night in the tomb.
If we follow the events based on Jewish tradition it fits into the scriptures. I added more detail on this to the top of the blog.

Jesus and his disciples ate the meal of the passover - Do you think they ate it before its time? I think not since they were bound to follow the traditions established by the prophets before him. now in this case how would Jesus be crucified whilst the slaughtering of the passover lambs is taken place??

I couldn’t figure the manipulation you wrote of since the outcome of your research never arrived at how 3 days and 3 nights were fulfilled. If your mind set is about 72 hours, the Holy Scripture may not repeatedly say Jesus will rise and rose up the 3 day. Also to arrive at 72 hours we must of necessity know the exact hours of Jesus’ burial and resurrection. Genesis 1 v 5 shows us that God called light day and called the darkness night, and that the day is made up of evening and morning. Therefore, If Jesus was buried in the evening according to the suggestion of Matthew 27 v 57-60 He was buried in the day not night. Although Mark 15 v 25 stated obviously Jesus was crucified in the morning-03:00 AM, but you deliberately placed His crucifixion in the afternoon. Please sir, how do we handle this your research that contradicted everything that happened with time since the Holy scripture is very precise of their times?

As Pastor Doug mentions in this recording, it would be Thursday night in the garden/trial, Friday night dead in tomb, Saturday night in tomb. Three days would be, Friday on the cross, Saturday in the tomb, Sunday in the tomb until He is resurrected.

Jesus went down the earth to proclaim scripture to Old Testament saints because in Old Testament sins were covered not forgiven so all old saints couldn't enter into heaven due to sins were not forgiven that's the reason God sent them in paradise which were down the earth so Jesus Christ went there proclaim them gospel.. And took them to 3rd heaven🙏

The Guard at the Tomb (Matthew 27)
62 The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate. 63 “Sir,” they said, “we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ 64 So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.”

check for weekly sabbaths and high sabbaths and the difference.
there are 7 high sabbaths 15 and 21 nisan first and last day of unleavend bread feast.
the day of pentecost or shavout 50 days (7 *7 days after the first fruit feast). the feast of trumpet 1 tishri, the day of atonement 10 tishri and the 15 and 22 of tishri for the feast of the ingathering. these are fixed days on the calendar and fall each year on a different day of the week. Think about the 25 of december each year is a diffenent day of the week.
your interpretation is quite personal and dont share is at all.

the unleavened bread. He meant not the 15 day which
begins properly the feast of the unleavened bread because the "first unleavened bread is to be eaten together with the passover on the evening of the 14 day. Luke 23 vs 55-56 helps clarify Mk 16 vs 1that they bought and prepared spices on the same day Jesus was buried. Mk 16 vs 1 should be understood as "Aorist indicative past time". To insist on Jesus being in the grave full 72hrs implies we must be told the exact hours

Sir, please idea that Jesus was crucified on wednesday and rose around saturday to complete 72hrs in the grave has no scriptural fulfillment. Firstly Lev 23 vs 5 revealed the passover is to be eaten in the EVENING of the14 day in line with Ex 12vs 6 and what actually took in Matt 26 vs 20 (passover was eaten in the evening).Secondly what Matt 26 vs 17 referred to as the "first unleavened bread"
(since "day" was not in the Greek text) and passover day is in line with Ex 12 vs8 on the 14 day passover is eaten with th

John 16:7 doesn't say that Jesus is not coming again. It says that if Jesus goes to heaven, then the Holy Spirit will come upon the Apostles (and subsequently, upon us).

My understanding is that in Jewish terms any part of a day is still considered a day. Therefore, buried on Friday, still entombed on Saturday, in the tomb but rose from it on Sunday. Three days.

Sir, please consider this for the fulfilling of the scriptures. Jesus was crucified on Wednesday afternoon the Passover day, the 14th day of the first month. The passover is not considered a Sabbath according to Lev 23 and work is allowed, but the following day, the first day of unleavened bread is considered a sabbath day. The first and last day of the feast are. So the passover was also a preparation day for the following sabbath day ( feast day sabbath not weekly sabbath). So Jesus was in the tomb Wed, Thur and Friday night and rose somewhere between Saturday afternoon ( a full 72 hours after his death) and early Sunday morning. In Mark 16 it says the women bought spices after the sabbath day. This was after the feast day sabbath of the 15th that they bought them. The couldn't have bought them and prepared them after the weekly sabbath because they arrived at the tomb very early in the morning while still dark.

Yes, I believe this is the correct scenario. It fits the scripture, and also the 72 hours that he must of been in the tomb. I read this theory somewhere else and makes complete sense. I am 99.99% convinced this is what happened. Also, being crucified on The Passover would make complete sense with the grandiose plan of God, because the ultimate lamb that would take the sins of the world had been sacrificed on that day, that lamb being our Savior Jesus Christ.
Avatar Placeholder

I like your reasoning. But some could argue that the feast day sabbath ended at even, so they bought the spices after the sabbath (at even - very possible) and very early on the first day of the week (after the sabbath) they came with the spices to the tomb. This would agree with what Mark wrote and not include a whole day (sixth day of the week) as you seem to imply. I'm just suggesting this to cover all the bases. I am a believer because my Saviour's scriptures said so, although I haven't been able to settle on this one as concrete as yet. I hope to find that answer, pray God.

Hi Rob, Yes the day after passover was considered a feast sabbath but passover was never referred to as the "preparation day". John 19:31 tells us "because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,)". There is a special distinction made between this Sabbath and from other sabbaths by using the words "that sabbath" and it "was an high day". Also in looking at the example of manna; it fell on the Sixth day of the week (Friday), didn't fall on the Seventh day (Sabbath), and then fell again on the First day (Sunday). Jesus speaking of this event in John 6:50 says "This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die."
6:51 "I am the living bread which came down from heaven..." The manna falling from Heaven was a prophecy of Christ. The manna didn't fall on the fifteenth day of the week just as Christ rested in the tomb on the fifteenth day of the week, the day after passover.

"3 days and 3 nights in the heart of the earth" made to fit starting at Christ's arrest on Thursday until He was buried on Friday afternoon runs totally counter to the booklet that Amazing Facts sells written by the late
Joe Crews called "3 days and 3 nights" which says all of Jesus' 3 days and. 3 nights were spent in the tomb of the earth, not part of it still alive above ground on the earth for almost a full 24 hour day of that time-slot. Never heard anyone ever before Doug Batchelor pontificating such a theory as his idea of what "in the heart of the earth" is supposed to mean. That one seems like he's really gone out on a limb for that one.
Wow. Jimmy

Also the sign of Jonas is that he was ALIVE in the belly of the whale and not dead which makes the miracle of Jonas so extraordinary as anyone swallowed by a whale or any other creature would certainly die within 3 days but Jonas didn't. The only conclusion that can be made is that Jesus was Alive when put in the tomb that is why he was able to come out of it alive like Jonas came out the belly of the whale alive. Also I didn't know it was a custom of the Jews to anoint a body so many days after it has died

Caller:  I was wondering about the three days and the three nights you find where like Jonah's in the belly of the whale, so shall the Lord be in the belly of the earth?

Pastor Doug:  Yes that's found in Matthew chapter 12.  It's a prophecy that Jesus makes talking about the sign of Jonah.  Were you wondering how was Jesus in the tomb three days and three nights?

Caller:  Yes I hear a lot Ministers, they use inclusive reckoning and stuff like that and I was wondering what your opinion on it was.

Pastor Doug:  Well I'm going to come at this from a different point of view and so bear with me.  This is a very important issue.  Matter of fact, I wrote a book on the subject.  I wrote an article actually, and it's called The Sign of Jonah.  If you call the Amazing Facts office or you call our resource number, tell them you'd like the article called The Sign of Jonah and it has much more than I can share in a brief answer here.

But, in essence, there's only one place in the Bible where Jesus addresses this.  And He says in Matthew chapter 12 verse 40, 'As Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale's belly, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth' - and people immediately do some mental calculations.  And they say, 'Okay Jesus died Friday, that's why they call it Good Friday.  He spent Friday night in the tomb, Saturday night in the tomb, and He rose Sunday.  Well that's two nights and a part of three days.  No way in the world is it three nights.  How can the Bible accurate?'  And I've had people who have given up their faith in the Bible.  They try to move the date of the Crucifixion, all kinds of gymnastics trying to deal with this Scripture.

Well let me come at it from a different angle.  There is a major misconception here regarding the heart of the earth.  Everyone's assuming that means the tomb but if you let the Bible explain itself, nowhere else in the Bible is the heart of the earth called the tomb.  For instance, in Matthew when we say the Lord's Prayer, 'Thy will be done, in earth, as it is in Heaven' - that's how the King James renders it - does that mean Thy will be done in the tomb?

Caller:  No.

Pastor Doug:  No.  When Jesus said the prince of this world comes, He was speaking of the devil.  When Jesus said as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish or the whale, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth, He wasn't talking about the tomb or vault.  He was talking about the heart of the earth meaning the clutches of the world.

You see, every time the mob tried to destroy Jesus or stone Jesus or throw Him off a cliff through His whole Ministry, He was untouchable.  He walked right through their midst, He disappeared, He became invisible they never were able to harm Him in any way because He was under His Father's protection.  But in the Garden of Gethsemane Thursday night when He said quite specifically, 'Now is the hour of darkness...' then the mob came.  They tied Him up, they beat Him, and He began suffering for the sins of the world.

See He didn't start suffering for the sins of the world when He was on the Cross and the nails pierced His flesh.  The suffering began in the Garden of Gethsemane, where He was taken from place to place and beaten and mobbed.  He went from Pilate to Herod and back to Pilate again.  He went from Caiaphas to Anna and back to Caiaphas and  - He was just drug all over the place during that period - and being mocked and whipped and thorns on His head and, He was suffering for the sins of the world.  He was a captive to the devil the same way Jonah went wherever the whale went.  See Jonah was a captive to the whale.  He was in that dark, hopeless environment for three days and three nights the same way that Jesus was in the clutches of the world, the clutches of the lost world, for three days and three nights.

Caller:  Ohh.

Pastor Doug:  When He prayed the third time, 'Not my will Thy will be done', and He said to His disciples you can sleep on because now is the hour of darkness - He made it very clear - this is the starting point.  The mob came.  He told Peter put away your sword this is why I came into the world.  From Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday night He was taking the penalty for our sins, which is punishment and death, not just death - punishment and death.  And He suffered and He died, starting Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday.  So that's the crux of that misunderstanding.  It has nothing to do with the tomb.

Caller:  Ok.

Pastor Doug:  And I challenge if I'm mistaken - if anybody out there wants to call in and show me one other place in the Bible where the heart of the earth is called the tomb, I'll retract it.  But I think you're going to be challenged to find that.  Thanks so much Matthew.

Caller:  Thank you!

Pastor Doug:  And call for that article if you can get a free minute to dial 835-6747, that's an 800 toll-free call.  God bless.
