Who Is the Antichrist?

Who Is the Antichrist?Lesson 15

Who ... or what ... is the antichrist? Evil alliance—or sinister individual? Some say his appearance is still in the future. Others say he appeared long ago in the days of ancient Rome. But the Bible indicates that he is alive today! Bible prophecies teach that this antichrist power will play a crucial role in the final events of earth’s history. Do you know who he is? Are you sure? You need to be, for you can’t understand last-day events until you understand this evil power. Be prepared for one of the most intriguing Study Guides yet!

This Study Guide is based on the book of Daniel chapter 7 and clearly and unmistakably identifies the antichrist. But it is only an introduction. Future lessons will reveal details of some of his activities that will have worldwide impact. What you discover today may displease or sadden you, but please remember that the prophecy of Daniel 7 comes from Jesus, who loves you. Pray for God’s guidance as you delve into this urgent subject. Be sure to read Daniel 7 before studying this lesson.
1. As chapter 7 begins, Daniel sees four beasts coming up out of the sea. In prophecy, what does a beast represent? What does the sea represent?

1. As chapter 7 begins, Daniel sees four beasts coming up out of the sea. In prophecy, what does a beast represent? What does the sea represent?

“The fourth beast shall be a fourth kingdom on earth” (Daniel 7:23).
“The waters ... are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues” (Revelation 17:15).

Answer:   A beast represents a kingdom or nation. Water represents multitudes of people or large populations.

2. The four beasts of Daniel 7 represent four kingdoms (verses 17, 18). Babylon, the first kingdom (Daniel 2:38, 39), is represented as a lion in Daniel 7:4. (See also Jeremiah 4:7; 50:17, 43, 44.) W

2. The four beasts of Daniel 7 represent four kingdoms (verses 17, 18). Babylon, the first kingdom (Daniel 2:38, 39), is represented as a lion in Daniel 7:4. (See also Jeremiah 4:7; 50:17, 43, 44.) What do the “eagle’s wings” mean? What do the “four winds” of verse 2 represent?

“The Lord will bring a nation against you ... as swift as the eagle flies” (Deuteronomy 28:49).
“Says the Lord of hosts: ... a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the farthest parts of the earth. And ... the slain of the Lord shall be from one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth” (Jeremiah 25:32, 33).

Answer:    The wings of eagles represent speed. (See also Jeremiah 4:13; Habakkuk 1:6–8.) Winds represent strife, commotion, and destruction. (See also Revelation 7:1–3.)

The bear with three ribs in its mouth symbolizes Medo-Persia.
The bear with three ribs in its mouth symbolizes Medo-Persia.

3. What kingdom does the bear represent (Daniel 7:5)? What do the three ribs in its mouth symbolize?

Answer:   Read Daniel 8. Notice that the beasts in chapter 8 parallel those in chapter 7. Daniel 8:20 specifically names Medo-Persia as the kingdom that precedes the male goat—that is, Greece—of verse 21. Medo-Persia is the second kingdom—the same power as the bear of Daniel 7. The empire was made up of two groups of people. The Medes came up first (represented in Daniel 7:5 by the bear raising up on one side), but the Persians eventually became stronger (represented in Daniel 8:3 by the ram’s second horn that grew “higher”). The three ribs represent the three principal powers conquered by Medo-Persia: Lydia, Babylon, and Egypt.

The leopard beast of Daniel 7 represents the world kingdom of Greece.
The leopard beast of Daniel 7 represents the world kingdom of Greece.

4. Greece, the third kingdom (Daniel 8:21), is represented by a leopard with four wings and four heads (Daniel 7:6). What do the wings represent? What do the four heads represent?

Answer:   The four wings (instead of two, as the lion had) represent the incredible speed with which Alexander conquered the region (Jeremiah 4:11–13). The four heads represent the four kingdoms into which the empire of Alexander the Great was divided when he died. The four generals who headed these areas were Cassander, Lysimachus, Ptolemy, and Seleucus.

The world empire of Rome is symbolized by the monster beast of Daniel chapter 7.
The world empire of Rome is symbolized by the monster beast of Daniel chapter 7.

5. The Roman Empire, the fourth kingdom, is represented by a powerful monster with iron teeth and 10 horns (Daniel 7:7). What do the horns represent?

Answer:    The 10 horns represent the 10 kings or kingdoms into which pagan Rome was eventually split (Daniel 7:24). (These 10 kingdoms are the same as the 10 toes of the image described in Daniel 2:41–44.) Roving barbarian tribes swept in upon the Roman Empire and carved out land niches for their people. Seven of those 10 tribes developed into the countries of modern Western Europe, while three were “uprooted” and destroyed. The next section will discuss those kingdoms that were rooted up.

Visigoths - Spain

Anglo-Saxons - England

Franks - France

Alemani - Germany

Burgundians - Switzerland

Lombards - Italy

Suevi - Portugal

Heruli - Rooted up

Ostrogoths - Rooted up

Vandals - Rooted up

The little horn of Daniel 7:8 represents Antichrist.
The little horn of Daniel 7:8 represents Antichrist.

6. In the Daniel 7 prophecy, what happens next?

“I was considering the horns, and there was another horn, a little one, coming up among them, before whom three of the first horns were plucked out by the roots. And there, in this horn, were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking pompous words” (Daniel 7:8).

Answer:   The “little horn” power appears next. We must identify it carefully because the biblical characteristics identify it as the antichrist of prophecy and history. There must be no mistake in making this identification.

7. Does the Bible give clear points identifying antichrist?

Yes. God’s Word gives us nine characteristics of the antichrist in Daniel 7 so we can be certain of his identity. And even though some might find these truths painful, we must be honest enough to accept them as His revealed will. Now let’s discover these nine points.

Answer:
A. The little horn would come “up among them”—that is, from among the 10 horns that were the kingdoms of Western Europe (Daniel 7:8). So it would be a little kingdom somewhere in Western Europe.

B. It would have a man at its head who could speak for it (Daniel 7:8).

C. It would pluck out or uproot three kingdoms (Daniel 7:8).

D. It would be different from the other 10 kingdoms (Daniel 7:24).

E. It would make war with and persecute the saints (Daniel 7:21, 25).

F. It would emerge from the pagan Roman Empire—the fourth kingdom (Daniel 7:7, 8).

G. God’s people (the saints) would “be given into his hand” for “a time and times and half a time” (Daniel 7:25).

H. It would “speak great words against” or blaspheme God (Daniel 7:25 KJV). In Revelation 13:5, the Bible says the same power speaks “great things and blasphemies.”

I. It would “intend to change times and law” (Daniel 7:25).

Don’t forget—all these identification points come directly from the Bible. They are not some human opinion or speculation. Historians could tell you quickly what power is being described, because these points fit only one power—the papacy. But in order to be certain, let us carefully examine all nine points one by one. There must be no room left for doubt.

8. Does the papacy fit these points?

8. Does the papacy fit these points?

Answer
Answer:   Yes—it fits every point. Let’s take a closer look:

A. It came up among the 10 kingdoms of Western Europe.
The geographical location of the papal power is in Rome, Italy—in the heart of Western Europe.

B. It would have a man at its head who speaks for it.
The papacy meets this identifying mark because it does have one man at the head—the pope—who speaks for it.

C. Three kingdoms were plucked up to make way for the rise of the papacy.
The emperors of Western Europe were largely Catholic and supported the papacy. Three Arian kingdoms, however, did not—the Vandals, Heruli, and Ostrogoths. So the Catholic emperors decided they must be subdued or destroyed. Here is how theologian and historian Dr. Mervyn Maxwell describes the results in volume 1, page 129, of his book God Cares: “The Catholic emperor Zeno (474–491) arranged a treaty with the Ostrogoths in 487, which resulted in the eradication of the kingdom of the Arian Heruls in 493. And the Catholic emperor Justinian (527–565) exterminated the Arian Vandals in 534 and significantly broke the power of the Arian Ostrogoths in 538. Thus were Daniel’s three horns—the Heruls, the Vandals, and the Ostrogoths—‘plucked up by the roots.’ ” It is not difficult to recognize that the papacy fits this point.

Woman in chainsD. It would be different from the other kingdoms.
The papacy clearly fits this description, as it came on the scene as a religious power and was different from the secular nature of the other 10 kingdoms.

E. It would make war with and persecute the saints.
That the church did persecute is a well-known fact, and the papacy admits doing so. Historians believe the church destroyed at least 50 million lives over matters of religious conviction. We quote here from two sources:

1. “That the Church of Rome has shed more innocent blood than any other institution that has ever existed among mankind, will be questioned by no Protestant who has a competent knowledge of history.” 1

2. In The History of the Inquisition of Spain, D. Ivan Antonio Llorente provides these figures from the Spanish Inquisition alone: “31,912 persons were condemned and perished in the flames,” and 241,450 were “condemned to severe “penances.”

Words of Care and Concern
Lest anyone should think that we are attacking fellow Christians by identifying the little horn power, please keep in mind that the prophecy is aimed at a system and not individuals. There are sincere, devout Christians in all churches, including the Catholic faith. Daniel 7 is simply a message of judgment and correction upon a large religious institution that compromised with paganism, as many other churches have also done.

Prophecy Reveals Faults of All Faiths
Other prophecies point out the faults of the Protestant and Jewish faiths. Sincere seekers of truth can be found in every religion, but not every religion is true. Those seekers who are listening for the voice of truth will hear the correction of the Lord and will not shut their hearts against Him. They will go humbly where He leads. We should be thankful that God’s Word speaks with impartial honesty on every subject.

Prophetic Time:
Time = 1 year
Times = 2 years
½ time = ½ year

F. It would emerge from the fourth kingdom of iron—the pagan Roman Empire.
We quote two authorities on this point:

1. “The mighty Catholic Church was little more than the Roman Empire baptized. ... The very capital of the old Roman Empire became the capital of the Christian empire. The office of Pontifex Maximus was continued in that of the pope.” 2

2. “Whatever Roman elements the barbarians and Arians left ... [came] under the protection of the Bishop of Rome, who was the chief person there after the emperor’s disappearance. ... The Roman church ... pushed itself into the place of the Roman World-Empire, of which it is the actual continuation.” 3

G. God’s people (the saints) would “be given into his hand” for “a time and times and half a time.”
Several things need clarification here:

1. A time is a year, times is two years, and half a time is half of a year. The Amplified Bible translates it: “Three and one-half years.” 4

2. This same time period is mentioned seven times in the books of Daniel and Revelation (Daniel 7:25; 12:7; Revelation 11:2, 3; 12:6, 14; 13:5): three times as a “time, times, and half a time”; twice as 42 months; and twice as 1,260 days. Based on the 30-day calendar used by the Jews, these time periods are all the same amount of time: 3½ years = 42 months = 1,260 days.

Woman in chains3. One prophetic day equals one literal year (Ezekiel 4:6; Numbers 14:34).

4. Thus, the little horn (antichrist) was to have power over the saints for 1,260 prophetic days; that is, 1,260 literal years.

5. The rule of the papacy began in ad 538, when the last of the three opposing Arian kingdoms was uprooted. Its rule continued until 1798 when Napoleon’s general, Berthier, took the pope captive with hopes of destroying both Pope Pius VI and the political power of the papacy. This period of time is an exact fulfillment of the 1,260-year prophecy. The blow was a deadly wound for the papacy, but that wound began to heal and continues healing today.

6. This same period of persecution is mentioned in Matthew 24:21 as the worst period of persecution God’s people experience. Verse 22 tells us it was so devastating that not one soul would have survived if God had not shortened it. But God did shorten it. The persecution ended long before the pope was taken captive in 1798. It is plain to see that this point, likewise, fits the papacy.

H. It would speak "pompous words" of blasphemy "against [God]."
Blasphemy has two definitions in Scripture:

1. Claiming to forgive sins (Luke 5:21).

2. Claiming to be God (John 10:33).

Does this point fit the papacy? Yes. Let’s first look at the evidence for it claiming to forgive sins, taken directly from its own literature: “Does the Priest truly forgive the sins, or does he only declare that they are remitted? The Priest does really and truly forgive the sins in virtue of the power given to him by Christ.”5 The papacy further undermines Jesus by setting up a system of confession to an earthly priest, thus bypassing Jesus, our High Priest (Hebrews 3:1; 8:1, 2) and only Mediator (1 Timothy 2:5). Next, consider the evidence for it claiming to be God: “We [the popes] hold upon this earth the place of God Almighty.”6 Here is more evidence: “The pope is not only the representative of Jesus Christ, but he is Jesus Christ, Himself, hidden under the veil of flesh.”7

I. It would "intend to change times and law." In a future Study Guide, we will deal with the “times” of this point. It is a major topic and needs separate consideration. But what about changing “law”? The Amplified Bible translates “law” as “the law.” The reference is to changing God’s law. Of course, no one can really change it, but has the papacy attempted to do so? The answer is yes. In its catechisms, the papacy has omitted the second commandment against veneration of images and has shortened the fourth commandment from 94 words to eight and divided the tenth commandment into two commandments. (Check this for yourself. Compare the Ten Commandments in any Catholic catechism with God's list of the commandments in Exodus 20:2-17.)

There is no doubt that the little horn power (the antichrist) of Daniel 7 is the papacy. No other organization fits all nine points. And, incidentally, this is not a new teaching. Every Protestant Reformer, without exception, spoke of the papacy as antichrist.8

9. Wasn’t Daniel told to seal up his book “until the time of the end” (Daniel 12:4)? When will Daniel’s prophecies be opened to our understanding?

Answer:   In Daniel 12:4, the prophet was told to seal the book till the “time of the end.” In verse 6 an angelic voice asked, “How long shall the fulfillment of these wonders be?” Verse 7 says, “It shall be for a time, times, and half a time.” The angel assured Daniel that the section of the book dealing with end-time prophecies would be opened after the end of the 1,260-year period of papal control, which was, as we learned earlier in this Study Guide, 1798. So the time of the end began in the year 1798. As we have seen, the book of Daniel contains crucial messages from heaven for us today. We must understand it.

All religious teachings must be compared with Scripture to determine their accuracy.

10. Many Christians today have been misinformed regarding the antichrist. To believe an untruth about the antichrist could cause a person to be deceived. What should a person do when new Bible teachings are encountered?

“These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so” (Acts 17:11).

Answer:   When a new Bible teaching is encountered, the only safe procedure is to compare it carefully with Scripture to see if it is in harmony with God’s Word.

Thought Questions

1. I always thought the antichrist is a person, not an organization. Am I wrong?

This Study Guide has presented evidence that the antichrist is an organization—the papacy. The words “eyes of a man” in Daniel 7:8, however, do point to a leader. Revelation 13:18 speaks of a man with a number being involved. In Daniel 8, Greece is represented by a goat and its leader, Alexander the Great, is symbolized by a horn. The same is true of antichrist. The organization is the papacy. The pope in office is its representative. The prophecy of Daniel 7 is not saying that popes are evil and that Catholics are not Christians. There are many warm, loving Catholic Christians. The system, however, is called antichrist because it has attempted to usurp Jesus’ authority and attempted to change His law.

2. Do you think it is wise for Christians to pass laws enforcing Christianity?

No. The Bible is clear that all should have freedom to choose the direction they wish to go in matters of conscience (Joshua 24:15)—even if they choose to deny God. The Creator permitted Adam and Eve to choose to disobey even though it hurt both them and Him. Forced worship is not acceptable to God. Forced worship is the devil’s way. God’s way is loving persuasion. History shows that virtually every time the church passed laws to enforce its beliefs, persecution and murder of others resulted. This is a lesson we can learn from the history of the little horn during the Middle Ages.

3. Perhaps I have misunderstood, but my concept has always been that antichrist would be an evil being who openly opposed God. Is this concept incorrect?

We usually consider the word “anti” to mean “against.” It can also mean “in the place of” or “instead of.” Antichrist is guilty of assuming the prerogatives of God. It claims:

A. Its priests can forgive sins—which only God can do (Luke 5:21).

B. To have changed God’s law by dropping out the second commandment (against
worshiping images) and splitting the tenth into two parts. God’s law cannot be changed (Matthew 5:18).

C. That the pope is God on earth.

Satan's Original Plan
Satan’s original plan was to assume God’s position and authority. His aim was to oust God and rule in His place. (See Study Guide 2.) When Satan was ejected from heaven, his aim did not change but rather intensified. Through the centuries he has endeavored, using various human agencies, to discredit God and take over His position.

Antichrist Appears to Be Spiritual
Satan aims to replace God in these last days by deceiving people into following the antichrist, who appears spiritual and holy. The main purpose of the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation is to expose Satan’s traps and strategies and lead people to anchor in Jesus and His Word for safety.

Antichrist Will Deceive Many
Most people will follow the antichrist (Revelation 13:3) thinking they are following Christ. Only the elect will be safe (Matthew 24:23, 24). They will be secure because they test every spiritual teaching and leader by Scripture (Isaiah 8:20). Religious deception is everywhere. We cannot be too careful.

4. Doesn’t the Bible say in 1 John 2:18–22 that there are many antichrists?

Yes. There have been many antichrists down through history who have worked against the kingdom of God. However, there is only one entity that specifically fulfills all the prophesied characteristics of the antichrist. In Daniel chapters 7 and 8 and in Revelation chapter 13, you will find at least 10 identifying traits of the antichrist. These 10 identifying marks are all fulfilled in only one entity—the papacy.

5. In prophecy, does the symbol “beast” mean “beastly” characteristics?

Not at all. God uses the symbolism of a beast to signify a ruler, nation, government, or kingdom. It is His way of depicting governments in prophecy. We do this ourselves to some degree: We have depicted Russia as a bear, the United States as an eagle, etc. The symbol “beast” is not a demeaning, disrespectful term. It is synonymous with “animal” or “creature.” Even Christ is portrayed as a lamb by John the Baptist (John 1:29) and the apostle John (Revelation 5:6, 9, 12, 13). The term “beast” is utilized by God to give us a message about nations and leaders—good and evil.

It appears there might be some mistake in this study "Who is the Antichrist" with some historical dates.

Quote: "Ostrogoths - Rooted up.... 5. The rule of the papacy began in ad 538, when the last of the three opposing Arian kingdoms was uprooted." (Reference to Daniel 7:8)

The Ostrogoths were not uprooted in 538 AD. They actually conquered Rome two times in subsequent years.

Firstly, after a year long siege in 546 AD. Then, they lost it later and they reconquered it again in 550 AD.

It does not seem right to use 538 AD as a start year. Unless the meaning of "uprooted" means something else in original writing. If you uproot the tree, you do not expect to pick up fruit from same tree in couple of years time.

I found this study as a perfect example of "Eisegesis" or "reading into the text".
"Eisegesis (/ˌaɪsɪˈdʒiːsɪs/) is the process of interpreting text in such a way as to introduce one's own presuppositions, agendas or biases. It is commonly referred to as reading into the text.[1] It is often done to "prove" a pre-held point of concern, and to provide confirmation bias corresponding with the pre-held interpretation and any agendas supported by it."

There are only 5 instances in the Scriptures where the word "antichrist" appears. This study quotes 50 other verses and it does not quote a single instance where the Antichrist is mentioned. Not even once.

Only at the bottom of the Study Guide, after the lesson, in the "Thought Questions" section, it mentions verses where some (not all) instances of the antichrist are described. That's not how we suppose to do the Bible Study.

How about I suggest a different approach:
a. Find all verses where the word is mentioned. Expand it to see the context.
b. Below each verse, write it down, take the essence, the specific statements about what is stated.
c. Summarise all 5 verses into one cohesive statement.
d. Evaluate in those 5 verses how the word antichrist is written (i.e. together or separate) because it has different meanings such as "against vs. instead".
e. Confirm with multiple other text examples of word "anti" vs. "anti-" to have a clear picture how word antichrist compares with other examples
f. Then think about it.

When you have a clear understanding how Bible describes Antichrist, then do the same with the "Beast".

Only then compare and see if "Antichrist" = "Beast". Maybe it is, maybe it is not.

I would split this study guide. One lesson for Antichrist. One lesson for the beast. Then compare it.

This approach/methodology used for Bible Study "Who Is The Antichrist" is not serious study.

Yes, as you above said, "the points fit only one power—the papacy." John the Apostle said:
1John 2:v.18-20:
18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there MANY antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

The birthplace /cradle of Antichrist
1 John 2:v.19
19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

Very interesting this revelation of the Apostle John of the primitive Church. Who is the Apostle John talking about or to whom is he referring in the verse above?
We know that the book of Revelation was showed to John around year 95 AD, i.e. 65 years after the ascension of JESUS to the third heaven. And we know also that there are two distinct Beasts described in Revelation 13:v. 1 to 18. Today, after about 2,000 years, we can and should discern both Beasts will lead two distinct satanic religious systems in near future, but one, the FIRST Man Beast, he already exists, the another has not yet, but he will manifest in near future.

In fact one already exists since ancient time, it has existed for about two thousand years, that is, the Beast of sea, a satanic religious system developed by Satan within the Roman Empire, after he had corrupted the church of Rome that was established by the Apostles Peter and Paul, both were killed by persecution, and thus was developed satanic Antichrist's movements through the corrupt church of Rome, the Catholic Church.

Notice that Revelation describes 7 churches, and the church of Rome would be the eighth, but it was left out because the church of Rome was already completely disapproved by JESUS.
In fact, the church of Rome developed a systematic opposition against to the Churches of the Lord that preached the Gospel of God's Kingdom, preached firstly by the Lord JESUS Christ, and continued by the Apostles and disciples of the Lord, by the way, it is preached yet until today.
The satanic religious structures and organizations of the Roman Catholic Church within the Roman Empire, which rides upon the Beast of sea, the Pope, since the confuse election of the first Pope in the first century after Christ, who can be Linus or Clement, and for to increase the confuse election of whom really is the first Pope, the own Satan, the main leader of the blasphemer movement of Antichrist of the Roman Catholic Church, he himself, time after, from the late 2nd or early 3rd century the convention began of regarding Peter as the first pope. Its more a satanic blasphemy.
About the events above described, and the corruption of the Church of Rome, see what the Word of GOD reveals by the VISUAL testimony of Apostle John: 1 John 2:v.18-21
18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that Antichrist shall come, even now are there many Antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
19 They (the Church of Rome) went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
21 I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the Truth.

What we can say is that the woman, the Great Whore, that is the Babylonian Roman Catholic Church, married to 266 Popes, currently Francis I is the 266th Pope, she sits upon the scarlet colored Man Beast of sea, the Pope, the Papacy - from the Latin expression Pater Patrum - , full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns, reason by which the RCC is called Babylon The Great, The Mother Of Harlots And Abominations Of The Earth, which is drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus.

THE PUNISHMENT OF THE ANCIENT AND CORRUPT CHURCH OF ROME FROM NOW ON - THE WORD IS GOD

Revelation 18:v. 1 to 5
1 And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.
2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.

I have read through the document thinking it would be helpful but I have not found any scripture with the term Antichrist. No definition has been attempted for the term. The only place I find the term is in the new testament and there the term is clearly defined (the antichrists are identified with characteristics). The entire document needs revision for clarity and relevance. Illegitimate leaps in arguments should be avoided. Regards Lumumba Patrick A.M

The ministry's name, "Amazing Facts" wasn't created in relation to Bible or other religious facts. If you read our story on our website: "Amazing Facts began in 1965 with a brilliant radio idea to attract listeners from all walks of life. Joe Crews, the ministry's first speaker, opened each radio broadcast with an amazing fact and then followed with a related biblical message that everyone could understand..." These facts which he shared were from nature, science, technology, history, "something that actually existed". Over the years, we've compiled all those facts into three volumes which you can find here: https://www.afbookstore.com/pages/search-results-page?q=the+all-new+book+of+amazing+facts&page=1&rb_product_type=Books

Not Catholic But . . .
Regarding the point in this discussion regarding blasphemy as pertaining to a priest who forgives sins:
From the text above we read: "Blasphemy has two definitions in Scripture:

1. Claiming to forgive sins (Luke 5:21)."

The words in the scripture verse referred to (Luke 5:21) are merely the thoughts and understanding of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law.

However in the actual words of Jesus in John 20 : 22-23 we read "And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.” (NIV).

This would seem to indicate that a priest (or poet or painter), Catholic or otherwise, who has received the Holy Spirit, may indeed forgive sins (or not) with the authority of Jesus and NOT be guilty of blasphemy.

Interesting website. Sadly, it may not go far enough.
Rev 17:5 describes the MOTHER of HARLOTS, Per the identifying verses in Rev chapters 16-19, this "Mother" is the Catholic Church. She is a city (Rev 17:18) that sits on 7 mountains (Rev 17:9.) The Vatican City/Rome is built on seven "hills." Coupled with being drunken with the blood of the saints (Rev 17:6), many of whom they killed as article points out, arrayed in purple and scarlet, (robes) decked out in gold and precious gems, (papal tiara) with a golden cup full of abominations (communion chalice) (Rev 17:4;) committed fornication (sinned) with the kings of the earth (Europe) and made the inhabitants of the earth drunk with the wine of her fornication (17:2) and more, all these verses point to the same entity as the antichrist in this article, the papacy. BUT, let's understand Revelation now.
She, The Catholic Church, is the MOTHER of harlots. That means "she" has daughters. Who are these daughters? Since she is a church, and like begets like, her daughters are ALSO churches. What churches? The various denominations of Christianity who have followed in the mothers' footsteps!
In the 3rd century, with the assistance of Roman Emperor Constantine, this false church managed to "change" the law by getting Sunday, the first day of the week legalized as the "Christian" day of worship, as they believed Christ rose on 1st day of the week. Then this church persecuted and put to death anyone they caught "Judaizing," or recognizing the actual 7th day Sabbath. They were so proud of themselves as "the True Church," that they recorded their sinful deeds for all posterity in their own Catholic Encyclopedias. ANY church following in the Mother's doctrines of Sunday worship and man made holidays is a descendant of this false church!
So her harlot daughters broke away (Martin Luther/Reformation) BUT they continued following in her footsteps of Sunday worshiping and observing man made FALSE holidays like Good Friday/Easter and Christmas. Mat 12:38-40 points out that our Savior said He would be 3 days AND 3 NIGHTS in the heart of the earth. Find just one minute of a 3rd night between Friday going down of the sun and Sunday sunrise. It simply is NOT there, so by observing this "tradition" one is calling their Savior a LIAR! (Saying He didn't spend 3 nights in the earth.)
Further, doesn't anyone in Christianity even question the Savior's name? In the Greek NT, He is called Iesous, which is transliterated into the English name Jesus. First, there is NO LETTER or symbol in Greek or Hebrew, that makes the "J" sound as in John, Jerusalem, Jacob, Joseph, Jehovah, OR Jesus. It is an IMPOSSIBLE transliteration! NO "J sound is accurate! Secondly, doesn't anyone ask what Iesous means? All names have meanings. Iesous means "Hail ZEUS!" That's right! So whenever Christians call upon "Jesus" they are unwittingly hailing, praising the Greek God, Zeus! Check it out! I lie not to you!
Rev 12:9 identifies Satan the devil, as being the deceiver of the WHOLE earth. That means you, me, the preacher, everyone has been deceived. One MUST SEEK the TRUTH of God to find it. It doesn't happen just cause you are a good person and go to church regularly. Yes, there are relatively good people, desiring to be faithful, in both Catholicism and Christianity. That is why God, in Rev 18:4 warns, "... Come out of her My people, lest you share in her plagues." GET OUT of Christianity
s Sunday Churches and Catholicism!
SEEK Godly TRUTH. STUDY your Bible to show oneself approved. 2 Tim 2:25 Do NOT follow man, any man, not even me. Seek/trust ONLY God to teach you (Jer 17:5,7; Jn 6:45; 1 Thess 4:9; Is 54:13) and DEPEND upon His Holy Spirit to guide you into ALL TRUTH. Jn 16:13.

Except that Salvation comes from God alone through the death and resurrection of his son Jesus. "For by grace you are saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." [Eph 2:8-9 KJV]
Except [Col 2:16-17 KJV] "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a holy day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ."
Is the sabbath day Saturday? The scripture would seem to indicate this. Do followers of Jesus who worship on Sunday commit an apostasy? Let God be the judge of that brother. He knows our hearts and our convictions. I don't disagree with you but I do think that God is a better judge of character and his word than man.
Ultimately, salvation is nothing you do or say or observe, no work of your hands or indeed your heart. It's Gods sovereign decision alone to have called you even while still a sinner. Salvation is at it's heart, the simplest transaction in history of mankind. He became sin and carried our sin out of the city to Golgotha. The punishment that brought us peace was upon him. He has removed our sins from us as far as the east is from west so that on the day of atonement we'll be presented to his father as his bride, holy and pure and without blemish. The father would not give his son a filthy whore, but a pure and faultless bride. Salvation is free brother. Sanctification is another matter.
"But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed." [Isa 53:5 NKJV]

Yes but the bible tells us Not to Sin after we have repented "changed our minds" we become a new creature this is symbolized by baptism. We go under "die" and come up "a new creature" no more do we cling to earthly sin but are being made new creatures by God through His Holy Spirit. That process known as sanctification is the perfecting of our character. Jesus fulfilled the Law of God for which he came to die by Keeping IT! Jesus kept the law perfectly and He did so because HE LOVED! Love is the fulfillment of the law. You see when we Love GOD with ALL of our Heart our Soul our Strength and our Mind we will KEEP/OBEY His 10 commandments automatically there is NO trying it is the LOVE for God that creates the desire and HIs Spirit that creates the change in our actions that cause us to keep HIs law. We KEEP God's law "as a consequence of salvation" not because we are saved by it.
1 John 2:3-6 3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. John is saying if we know God then we Love Him, because "to know Him is to Love Him" and if we love Him we will obey Him by virtue of our love for Him. If you do not keep the law of God then it is because you do not know Him and you do not love Him. LOVE is NOT a word, it is not a phrase, IT IS WHAT YOU DO! You love is known and seen by your actions. If I love someone "truly" I want to obey them. We keep all of God's laws because we know God through His word and we keep HIs law because we know Him and because we Know Him we Love Him and therefore Keep His Law! We are not saved by the Law the law condemns us. The bible says "sin in the transgression of God's law" Grace and the Law are inseparable!

Glen ,Sunday worship is the mark of the beast, if you take the mark of the beast then you will not be saved. Yeshua is God and says you must keep the Sabbath which is the 4th commandment, the bible is very clear. Yes Ephesians is right but you forget that Yeshua said you must repent and be born again before you receive grace and be baptised. God said the seventh day (Saturday) is the Sabbath and must be obeyed, so yes Sunday worship is a sin and will lead to hell. You need to read your gospels again brother because only you can decide whether you want to be saved or not, Yeshua did the work for us to be saved but only you can accept His sacrifice on the cross, God cannot make you chose. How can Yeshua become sin? Yeshua never sinned whilst He was on earth, He took all our sin with Him to the cross and bore the punishment that we deserve, only He could take it because of how perfect He is. If you believe Yeshua sinned then you don't believe He is God because God cannot sin and you are not saved. The Colossians verse you are miss quoting is talking about all of the Leviticus Laws that God gave us all to keep. Telling us that don't let anyone nudge you for keeping the laws that God gave to us because we will be observing them in heaven, especially the Sabbath. Pray for understand brother.

Good luck with that James. Please don't suggest I have no salvation. You don't know that and to suggest it shows a self righteous judgemental attitude. The gift of salvation is a gift, not bestowed by you, the church, an act of worship a day observed or any act of works. Nope. Simply a free gift given by a God who knows how desperately broken we are. Anything less than a gift would impose law and legal requirements to be met in order to be accepted by God, the very thing that God gave his son for was to redeem us from the law. Why did Peter have a vision of unclean animals and be told, "get up and eat?" God was revealing to him that salvation had come to all, Jew and gentile alike. If you wish to place a yoke taken from you by the greatest act of mercy in history, back upon yourself, good luck. Me, I'm happy to accept the full and complete atoning sacrifice for my sin, past, present and future. For you to suggest I have no salvation stands in stark opposition to the person of Christ and the father heart of God and just smacks of self righteousness. I have two adoring children James. As a father I expect things from them, behaviour etc. But in so far as my heart toward them, it's always toward them. I know they are not perfect and I don't try to harness them with a yoke they would struggle to bear. I don't want distance with them James, I want trust so they know I will always have their backs. I suggest you ask God reveal to you at the very core of your being, just how much he loves you. That would certainly help you to be less judgemental. Finally, I find it an interesting paradox that the seventh day adventist church stands pointing her finger at the Roman apostate church, crying foul, when they (the Roman church) believe in such nonsense as purgatory and paying penance and saint worship and yet the adventist church lifts up a prophetess as if she was a saint and imposes judgement as if they are the sole keepers of truth. I won't suggest you are not saved James simply because I understand that salvation comes from God and through faith alone and unlike God I cannot see your heart over a social media chat forum. Do you believe in salvation by faith alone, or is there something more you have to do to curry Gods favor?

James. You seem to be missing a vital point here. Jesus (Yesha Hamashia) came to fulfil the law and to free us from the bondage of the law. Under law, no man can please God and all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. By the blood sacrifice of Jesus, we are redeemed from the claim the law had on us. The full penalty for sin was paid by Jesus and no man can add to or remove from that. To suggest someone is not saved because of not observing a law that was given to the Hebrew nation shows you have a little more growing to do in your faith because it implies that there is a legal requirement to be observed that provides an assurance we will be accepted by God. There is not. The bible is abundantly clear on this point. John 3:16-17, Eph 2:8-9, Rom 4:3-4, Romans

After driven out from Eden, man was indeed proven to be dust and not a "god." The common byword after his fall is, "and he died." What then, was the human race destined for doom? It WAS supposed to be, but then God Himself took the shame upon Himself and died our death. After the transgression of the holy Law, which was an "embodiment" of God's character, man needed to be reconciled with God. And Christ did just that for us on His death and resurrection. Has man then been justified or proven holy or righteous by the keeping of the Law? No!
None are saved by the observance of the Law. No, not one, I know not any.
"We do not earn salvation by our obedience; for salvation is the free gift of God, to be received by faith. But obedience is the fruit of faith. Being saved by grace is accompanied by "good works."
See Eph 2:10, Mat 5:16, 2 Tim 3:16,17, Titus 2:13,14, Heb 10:24.
Our works do matter to God and is essential for Salvation. Whiles we cannot work our way into Salvation, we can work our way out of Salvation. And the Law reveals to us our sin "bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith."
Revelation 14:12 identifies the saints of God, who made it to Heaven, as commandment - keepers and have the faith of Jesus. The wicked in the previous verses definitely did the direct opposite. Where do you stand?

I believe it is the truth, however at the same time I do not like the way the lesson changes the description of Rome and my reason for this is that the Bible states a "terrible beast", in the only Bible that people should be reading (KJV, not nkjv or any other), and to change those words as much good as it may seem to do is not good in that it leaves room for debate. When it comes to referencing the Bible it is the final word and should not be altered ie..... beast represent kingdoms and their kings a monster is its own entity and is not the subject of biblical prophecy here another such example is Job and Christ... In Job the bible states that the sons of God came to present themselves before God and they surely did but other translations take away the word begotten in the gospels and other places, so that when someone, not knowing God, is reading to test the validity of God's word here in job God's sons but in the Gospels God's only son... whats wrong with this picture is someone may or may not of had pure thoughts in the translation but they just altered the word in a manner of such that it contradicts itself and this should not be let God be true and every man a liar.

Milo Pierce ,"the sons of God" in the book of Job are angels, more specifically fallen angels that try to ask for forgiveness. "The Son of God" is Jesus, "the sons of God are angels", angels are not sons that is just a name for them. Also the kjv is corrupt and wrongly translated, you should only ready bible in original greek or original Hebrew translated into english. The real name for Jesus is Yeshua in Hebrew. Also you need to read your gospels again because the only way to salvation is the repentance and faith in Yeshua Ha'mashiach. You cannot be saved unless you first repent for your sins and have faith in Yeshua then you receive grace and you would be baptised in the name of Yeshua Ha'mashiach. The Bible never contradicts itself. Finally, "begotten" was never used, the word is "yachiyd" which means beloved. "For God so loved the world that He gave His yachiyd".
